My 540G Inwall Display Build Thread

Man, I am so interested in Solatubes as a lighting solution. A couple of questions if you don't mind:

1). Why would you need dimmers?

2). On one of the Australian build threads the owner went without lenses on the inside to max the light input. Have you considered doing this?

Thx,

Dave.M

The dimmers are adjustable. They can be 100% open and let all the light in or 98% cosed and block out almost all the light or anything in between, and they are controlled by a switch. If burning becomes an issue in the summer or if I add a new coral and slowly want to bring up the light the dimmers will allow me the flexibility to do that.
The cover at the bottom will be clear glass or acrylic so it wont block any light. I fear that if I dont put a cover on it I will have condensation issues in the dome.

Six months will pass before you know it and if you are anything like me you will be behind schedule anyhow. No rush, the system looks awesome so far. Your patience is rewarding you with the best home fish kit in the US!

awesome tank, love the solar power, way to cut the cost of keeping saltwater tank and love the aquascape.

The pad for the shed is completed and all the wood has been purchased. Hopefully construction will start on that in a few days.

Tank is coming along, I'm glad I just came across this thread I don't think I could have waited 2 years! :lmao: Nice rock work on the outside, is that very difficult to do? I wanted to use that same style rocks around my fireplace.

I'm not going to be making much more progress for the next few month with multiple knee surgeries starting tomorrow. I wont be able to do the work and I will have the medical bills as well. This makes my water by thanksgiving goal almost impossible to reach. I will still try my best.
After all the drywall is hung textured and painted the list is as follows in order of importance to me.
Remote curtain for bedroom
Bar top (wood)
Electrical, insulation and FRP inside the shed.

Who knows after that.

Best of luck with your knee surgery. If you need any help with anything, please feel free to give me a call! With the big tank or the small one or anything else.

sooo nice Ryan glad you went with the solartubes. Should keep the
temp down right? Are you still planning on building the track above the tank to slide across for cleaning and access?

Great build Ryan. I love the stone, can't wait to see it full of fish and coral.

Oh, and I almost forgot....Booooo Cal.
