My 748 Gal A.G.E. Aquaillumination SOL lit Texas Dream Tank Build!

Looks good
I have no luck combining sps and softies( neon green kenya tree, pink leather finger and other nice softies in my tank.
Are you planning to have mixed sps tank?
Thanks

Yes I am going to give it a try. My first love is softies & LPS. I figure I will run some carbon & see what happens.

I noticed you use an Ozotech Ozonizer. How well is this unit working for you? Also where did you get the Precision Marine Balistic series skimmer from?

Thanks,
Marc

Skimmer is working great. I got it from my houston supplier John from aquatic world. Also have the PM kalk reactor & media reactors. I couldn't be happier with the performance. The only thing I would caution is that the feed pump for the slimmer is a genx30, wayyy too noisy. I have a genx40 coming that is much quieter.

I have not hooked up the ozone yet. We had a death in the family on Thanksgiving & family was in town.

I just got the APEX back to working wireless & have planed for today:
Get the last 5 AI modules attached
2 M40s hooked up
Get the Apex actually controlling something, just monitoring PH right now b/c I couldn't get the wireless portion working after changing routers.
Mount some free frags a fellow reefer in Houston gave me, THANKS Travis!

Forgive me as I haven't been able to read the whole thread, but is that actually a heater you have on the left side tank wall?

Good catch, yes they are inside the tank stuck to the wall. I didn't want to move them to the sump until I got the Apex working. I had problems with the gaming adapter connecting to my new router. Finally got the Apex working so they will go to the sump today.

I got all 20 AI's on the tank yeaterday, but one of them will not dim or turn off. Never ends.... I'll figure this one out today.

tank is looking good man. i understand the heat thing it puts off as i live in a smaller apartment and while my tank isn't in my room i don't need to turn my heat on very often
:D :D :D

I have been lurking for a while. This thread made me join. Great tank

Glad you joined. Appreciate the compliment.

After a weekend of honey dos All I got accomplished was to add the last 5 AI modules & stop the damn green "heartbeat LED" on some of the modules. 5 of the modules have a green led light that blinks constantly. At night the tank was blinking green.

Thank you!

I think that was a major flaw in my planning. I will have to run another vent into the room when summer comes or get a stand alone A/C unit for night time.

I didn't think about something this huge being 78 degrees & heating up the room...

Skimmer is kicking ***, I had to vent it outside in case it overflowed & the room started to smell like a big fart.

About how often were you cleaning out the skimmer/bucket?

Prolly a good idea to drain this outside if possible anyway - floods happen - but typically a skimmer should only be that rank and smelly if its left uncleaned for days or more.

Even if just a little bit of gunk is in there, there is so much air coming out it brings that smell into the room.

Cleaning overflow container about once evey 10 days. It is a very large overflow container.

I think because I didn't have it supported is why it fell.

Yes i am using the thin rubber gasket on dry side.

This is one of the less-celebrated "features" of the vortech design. Take my advice and dont have anything breakable under/near your wet sides. (i.e. coral, heater) Secure the dry sides as advised as well or you may cause damage by one of them falling and hitting something.

Accidents happen, and the "right" bump during some maintenance activity is all that's required to send one or both spiraling down.

(I've lived with a lot of MP40's running on 1/2" glass for a long time, FWIW.)

Good to know, thanks!

Trust me, it's the "ripening time" much more than the air flow. :) It's certainly not practical for everyone (and some skimmer designs facilitate good cleaning much, much more than do others - ack, thumbscrews!!), but daily cleanings should prevent that smell if prevention were to become desirable.

Awesome tank, if I didnt say so already! Going to be one hell of a journey! :-D

Thanks mcarrol, daily cleaning is just not going to happen, the vent outside is working perfect!

received 24 rics & some zoes yesterday. I should have them mounted in a few days. They are in a plastic container in my sump until I can attach them.

How did you vent it out side? Where did you connect the hose to skimmer?

I have the overflow container with pingpong ball in it. Above that there is a hole for air to escape. I drilled the hole a little larger & stuck a barbed fitting in there. We are redesigning it & putting a bulkhead fitting in it.
