My Acros all turn Green

Now, first of all, theyre not covered with algae, its not skeleton, etc etc etc. Theyre all heatlhy...

They just all turn green.

I've got an acro that was tan with purple tips when I got it..now its neon green with redish highlights in some areas.

Ive got another acro (raspberry milli) that came in red with purple tips and blueish polyps. Now its green with blue/green polyps.

I keep buying different colored acros (all frags from other people) and they all just turn differing shades of bright green... its nice, but if I wanted everythign green, I'd still be growing amazon swords.

Whats the deal?

I have had frags of pink mille's turn green when not getting enough light. right now a purple prostrata frag is lying on the bottom of my 180 and it has cool green coloring, with yellow and blue highlights.

i would say they are unhappy in some way; i remember reading that green is the acros "safe" color, a way to deal with stress. maybe too much light?

Rich. It's your Skimmer!!!

;) Just joking!!! LOL!!!!

What are your parameters? Are you buying wild colonies? What lighting were they in before your tank? Are all of them doing this?

Nutirents ........alk swings......tank not mature?

The milli is 6" under a 250w HQI running a 10K bulb.... I can't see it not being enough light.

FWIW, acros that I save from other peoples tanks go through a specific color change almost EVERY time.

Brown - Green - And their natural color. I'm wondering if green is like the middle ground. While you might not have an issue, your acros are borderline on the color front.

I have a yellow and a purple one that both were brown then green.

I agree with the transition color. I have saved many brown outs and there is always a green phaze for a few months. Are all your acros green or just most?

I've heard thats a "natural" color change before "settling in" to their new environment. I've read this many times. I too have some frags turn green on me. Waiting for them to get back to their normal color.

I never have this problem unless the corals go into my not so low nutrient prop tank .

Coral in my display either stay the their og color or color up from brown . Never go from colored to brown and back without some sort of nutrient problem .

I can get a dirrect import and have it hold its color no problems.

I think it is one or a combo of things . Maybe as simple as salinity changes due to no auto tops off ,temp swings, alk swings ect.

We need more details.

I agree... More details.

Might be a matter of stressed corals expelling zooanthellae that gives the coral the color and that strain becoming dominant *shrug* It how they give all those funky colors to clams they literally throw a clam in a blender and "feed" it to the other clams.

hmmm, i AM using a 175w 20k bulb right now (xm), however i just ordered an iwasaki 15k, just about twice the PAR according to sanjay.

I have noticed that when i was using an xm 10k, my acro was more of a pale blue color with pinking polyps. With the 20k, its a bright almost irridescant green. Still cool looking, but i dont know if i want EVERYTHING in my tank looking like that.
