My Bigger Piece of the Reef (LotsOPics)

your total volume is close to 300gal and for my opinion the skimmer should handle twice the volume to really clean the actual volume unless you feed directly from the overflow. So the asm g4x in sump can handle up to 400g but actually it doesn't clean 400gal.

I am not being rude by any means, but I totally disagree. Running the water directly to the skimmer has it's downsides also. Every company has different skimmer ratings. Some over rate, some under rate.

Oh Don't worry we all have our own opinion the reason I said that regarding the ASM G4X skimmer because I own it before and I know how it work. Anyway I always like to over skim my tank to make sure that the water is clean and I can feed more......:-)

Thanks Anthony. I respect your opinion.

Here's mine...

Due to displacement by the reef... My total volumn is 216 gallons including the sump.

The ASM G4X is rated for 450 gallons with the Sedra 9000 pump. I have been told that it is somewhat over-rated so I purchased one with a Sedra 15000 which pumps 65% more water than the smaller pump... giving it a higher rating than the standard G4X.

Here's a pic after just 20 minutes. It's still getting broken in but, it is starting to calm down now and filling the cup every two days with some pretty foul smelling "Marco Rocks Die OFF"...

And here's the latest pics of the tank...

wow incredible aquascape.....I didn't know that you upgrade the sedra pump from 9000 to the 15000

Lookin good Kannin. Are all the lights on? Is it supposed to be dimmer in the middle? If so, nice effect.

very cool aquascape. if you dont completely cover the foam with the epoxy, is it bad for the tank??

Here's a pic with just the center light on...

But I'm really starting to like just the two blue outside lights.

The foam cures inert but, there's talk that i could be affected by U>V> light. I would hate for it to break down in a few years and have to pull everything out.

I know for a fact that light will break it down. Light or UV will break down just about anything givenm enough time including epoxy resin.

That is why I hesitated using foam on the tank I just set up. Everyone's main concern was the MH lighting destroying the top couple inches of foam. Who knows, only time will tell. Does anyone have any response on the pond side where this stuff is used? The sun I think would have the same effect.

I guess the flip side of this discussion is that when it breaks down it will give you a great chance to revamp your display or upgrade it. :)

Very true... If it starts to deteriorate after 4 or 5 years... It might be a good time to re-aquascape anyways.
