My Black Ocellaris pair are spawning!!!

This thread has been fantastic. I've combed over it over the last several days, taking a lot of notes. Now I'm fired up about breeding some clowns.

You know this thread is good if I'm finally posting something after a couple years of lurking.

I'm glad you found some usefull info in my thread thanks!

RKLM - how much time from buy them to there first spawn?
also, what is the time period between each spawn?

Thank you!

About a year and a half from when I bought them till first spawn I think. The time between spawns has been 14 days. They haven't spawned since I took down the 190 though.

I didn't see you took down the 190 :rolleye1:

When was that?

This is an Awesome Thread, I dont have clowns yet, still working on my first set up. But I will defiantly follow and use this as a reference, when I get a pair. Sounds like there is a lot of work just to get a set up for the fry.
Keep posting pictures. Do you ever sell what you raised to OH LFS?

can you help me? i learned a lot from this thread and have been making my first attempt at raising fry. i have a thread where i've asked a few times in this forum but no info so far as to what are the phases and appropriate timing for the different sizes of otohime? i'm nervous b/c i'm inexperienced and i know the standard way is to use baby brine. i just want these little guys to make it so want them to eat well but not quite sure how much they are eating of the otohime and what size i should be giving them. so i pretty much give all sizes between a and b1 and b2 in hopes that they eat one. i see them picking at the food. they are about 20 days old. thanks.

I haven't had any eggs in a long time so im going to get out of raising them once my current stock is gone.

Blacks are a lot more difficult to get them to spawn. I have 6 pairs & only 2 have spawned. The one pair spawned twice in the last month but it's the first time this year & it's Sept.

My black clowns took 3 1/2 years to lay but are now on a regular schedule. I think I'm gonna try and raise them for the first time soon. This thread helps a lot, thanks for that.

rkelman, what an adventure...many thanks for all your updates throughout your process...you have inspired many of us...you nearly wrote us a book...thanks!

best to you :)

Usually they lay on a tile so I just take the eggs to the larvae tank on the day they are to hatch. If they lay on a rock like this time. I use a flashlight and a bowl to catch the larvae and transfer them. (they are attracted to light)

I Have Eggs on my glass i would like to get them out once they hatch does my tank have to be pitch black and a flash light to get them out . i always have my moon led light on should i keep them of the night they hatch ???

I'm on page 14 of this post, working my way through. Just wanted to skip to the end and thank you for documenting your experience. It's very informative and inspirational!

Are the original parent's from this post "Black and White Ocellaris"? I am unsure if this differs from "Black Ocellaris" as the post title says... I have a black/white Ocellaris that still has an orange nose and some on his body. Just wondering if he will eventually be as dark as the parent's from this post.

They're the same thing. They're also called Onyx. They will continue to darken as they mature. A lot of them will still have a little orange on their face but it's typically a dirty orange. How old is your fish? Do you have a picture?

Onyx is a different fish then the black & white clowns.
