My journey using Chloroquine Phosphate begins...

Well I'm not knocking fishmans at all. They did give me a full refund which was nice of them! I got lots of money in my fish! Got a order in today black tangs, bandit, tinkeri, pair of declivis gold flake and a few more $2,600 worth! I'm not buying CP from china!! Can't trust it! I will pay $60 for 25grams to be sure it's pure CP why would I spend thousands on fish to risk china brand? That's just how I look at it! But that's just me! I can treat (2) 300 gallon tanks for $60 if I need to! I have read that true CP turns the water yellow or like tea! My tank stayed crystal clear dosing everyday!! Every one else says one time dose and that's it unless you do a water change!

My understanding is that chloroquine phosphate and chloroquine diphosphate are the same thing in terms of application. If you look at Sigma Aldrich's website, you'll find that both compounds have the same formula and molecular weight. Not sure why they have two discrete names, though.

Thank you for the confirmation, spectrum chemical has both chemicals but like I mentioned the CD was much cheaper comparably and they sell it in more manageable quantities. Hey mike, sounds like I need a update on your systems

The first one is a certified reference material ( meaning for lab use)

Great thread. There is a local dealer that brings in clownfishes that has brook often enough that he runs all new stock through CP from Fishman and he's seen total success even with active brook. I need to find out what concentration he uses. I have never seen once Ich or Velvet show up, no matter what condition his fishes arrive.

I didn't read through entire thread, just since August and lots of great posts and very informative. I'm not sure if this article was posted earlier, but it looks like more than 80mg/gal is needed. I need to read the article again.

I just emailed him and he uses 75mg/gal for quarantine and as long as it is at that concentration, nothing shows up and any signs of brook, ich or velvet disappears. He has LED lights only 6 watts per 5g tank area.

The general consensus here is that 40mg/g is sufficient for quarantine, with 80mg/g for active infections. I personally would not dose at higher concentrations than 80mg/g.

Makes sense. Everything I have read says 80mg/g is the upper limit, so running at 75mg/g for active infections is probably a good idea.

I don't see anywhere where it is reef safe, so why would you put into main display with corals & inverts? Also, isn't it best to remove the affected fish and hospitalized them in a small tank? Less CP and not treating everything if it doesn't need it. Just my 2 cents.

true on the QT but doesn't mean the DT has been dstroyed.

Anyway, I just put some birds nest and zoa in a container with CP. going to see what happens.

I have placed some of the mini brittle stars and amphipods in my qt tank dosed at 40mg/g and they all died.I was curious to see how they would do,all were dead by the next day.

Anyone figured out how to get these guys to eat the food laced with CP? I see my fishy go for it, but then spits it back out. The one fish that has the majority of the ick issue refuses to eat :(

Also, food laced with CP doesn't seem to address the root of the problem. Sure, it might cure the individual fish, but not the rest of the tank.

I agree with you guys. The tank was fallow for 3 months and the fish were QT for ich with CP.

Yup, CP taste nasty like Metro. I did a heavy mixture of food with a lot of garlic, and other additives to mask the taste. It was enough mixture of seafood and additives that makes you want to barf when you smell it lol. Some eat it and some don't.

There is an UK forum with a similar thread as this and some have tried feeding with success but there hasn't been much info other than "ICK IS GONE after eating it" yadayadayada.

Would stopping the treatment early to resume later cause an issue? The reason why I ask is because I was still trying to get two regals to eat but decided to start the treatment due to an outbreak.

Also, is the treatment 10 days or 3-4 weeks ?? Getting conflicting info.

I heard 10 days enough but I went 21-25 just to be sure waited for the while lifecycle of Ich to pass to be sure.

I don't know how 10 days could be enough when the normal lifecycle of cryptocaryon is up to 28 days. I would treat for 4 weeks to be safe.
