It is nice to see a company selling a medicated food. Feeding chloroquine has it's problems though. In theory, it should help since it can be found in the slime coat of fish after ingestion. The difficulties are coaxing the fish to take the spiked food. Having tasted it, it is terribly bitter and metallic like. Having tried it in a fish food, the fish seem to respond the same way. It also probably would not eradicate the parasite from your tank, but may decrease the load and give the fish's immune system to ability to respond and provide a response. As described in its name, it may work as a shield on the individual fish eating it and not a treatment of the entire tank.
I do not recommend using your skimmer during treatment
Follow up report. Its working great. Butterfly's are absolutely fine. No more dots eating well. They don't care about lights off at all. Probably so damn dark 450 ft anyway. I did have a small. 25 ppm ammonia spike today after about 5th day. Did a 30 per plus water change and replaced cp on new water. So weird this cp effects biological filter so late in process
So i've read thru MOST of this very large thread. But i just wanted to ask some experts. I've been having an issue with my tank and lost 4 fish. not sure what killed them, I thought it was ich, then i thought velvet, now i'm thinking brook.. I really don't know. They showed signs of all of them. I have 5 fish left and want to treat with something that would take care of it ALL rather than multiple treatments and stressing them out more.. The fish are 3 dartfish, a lawnmower blenny, and a radiant wrasse. I've been reading that it seem wrasses do not to good at all with this treatment.. are their any success stories at all with it? Maybe prazi first and then CP incase something bacterial?
Also i could go the ebay route as some people have bought from a certain guy that seems to work. Or i have really easy and quick access to the new life spectrum ick sheild powder. the active ingredient is 1,4-Pentanediamine, N4-(7-chloro-4-quinolinyl)-N1,N1-diethyl- which seems to be very close to pure CP but not the same.. Any ideas? would it be best to just contact a vet and try to get pure CP?
Thanks
Not sure how many have used CP with Regals before but I had a Red Sea that was eating well and started CP (1/2 dose 1st day, followed by the other half the following day) the fish showed signs of stress yesterday evening and was dead this am. TT for me on any regal in the future...
I called my vet to try to get some CP. She would not give it to me. She stated that legally she could be held responsible for fish deaths since she wrote the script. Also she was concerned about the disposal of the water. She did not want me dumping this water laced with this drug down our sewer and getting into our water supply. She also suggested I pay $100 and bring the fish in and get it scraped and fine out what exactly it has. And suggested I use Malachite Green for ich.
Where else can I get a pure form with out a script?
