My journey using Chloroquine Phosphate begins...

So, I found another source to order CP directly: Alfa Aesar (http://www.alfa.com). Alfa is a chemical supply company, and I was able to order 25g of CP with no problem. I just created an account and placed an order on 5-Sep with my credit card. My order shipped today.

Thank you so much for all your efforts and providing all of the information. It is appreciated!

Great to know we have better options available.

Just reading through the last few comments, I am getting the feeling that I am either really lucky or that someone is doing something wrong.

For starters, I have been having VERY good success with the Fishman Chem CP. I have been dosing it for the better part of two months and split the 1kg bag with my buddy who owns a store. He's reported similar success.

A thing of note; when I read about UV degrading the CP, I figured it prudent to make sure I store the product in a light-protected container. I'm using one of those shoebox tins you'd get from Ikea, sort of like this:

I have a small bag of desiccant in with the powder also.

To date, I've treated six tangs, a school of anthias and a few other assorted fish which were all covered in white dots. My friend has treated countless animals in his system (much to his lamentation, given that he just purchased some 4 gallons worth of copper a few weeks prior) and he swears by it.

Perhaps it would make sense for us to take a look at any secondary causes which would affect the success rate of CP from Fishman Chem? Just throwing it out there for the sake of dialogue.

Glad to hear you have had success with it! What concentration are using to treat?

I ran mine at 60mg/g and it has treated a purple, a swallow tail Angel, fusilier damsels, flame Angel and a flame hawk with great success.

Did you run your aquarium lights during treatment? Supposedly normal CFL lights won't denature CP, but now I'm starting to wonder...

I got a kilo from fishmans! Did not seem to be 99 pure! They told me to dose each day for 10 days!! Did work on one tank did not work on the others!! My water never turned yellow at all crystal clear water! Fishmans did give me a refund! I paid $180 for the kilo. My vet called me in 12 grams to my local drug store cost $60. There is no way to buy 99 percent CP for $180 kilo!! I have priced it everywhere!

Everywhere in US?
I can buy 99% from China for $60kg. Which is where I suspect fishman is getting it from. Yes, its not pharmaceutical grade, no FDA approval for human consumption. but your also not paying $150 for 100g from the pharmacy.

I would rather have pharmaceutical grade CP than take my chances with something from China with no guaranteed analysis. Proper treatment is worth the higher price to me. YMMV.

I didn't dose for ten days (two shots spread over three) and have stunning, repeatable success with my batch from Fishman. I did notice that my water became remarkably clear though. No yellowing.

I just wanted to clarify that I am not, in any way, affiliated with them. But I got a quality product and it saved my fish right proper from obvious illness.

Those who have successfully treating active infections (i.e. significant numbers of white spots present), how long did it take for the spots to disappear? I'm dosing at 60mg/g currently, and after 4 days there are still some spots showing.

+1 It's worth the price to ensure you are getting 99% pharmaceutical grade CP. Just ask anyone who has had to go fallow because of Ich.

10 days is the longest I've ever seen trophonts stay on a fish. Remember, at this time we can only assume CP works the same as copper and kills just the theront stage. If (BIG IF) it is possible that CP can eradicate Crypto in all life stages... I suspect the max dosage of 80mg/gal would be required.

Thanks, Humblefish. I'm probably being super-paranoid, since my first attempt at CP was unsuccessful. I did talk to the pharmacist who filled my script, and she confirmed that the CP I received was 99.7% pure. So, I guess I just need to give it more time. :)

Also, I asked Bob Goemans if CP affects the trophont and tomont stages, and his response was that only the theront stage is affected. Based on my observations so far, that seems to be the correct diagnosis. If it affected the other stages, there would be an immediate elimination of white spots with no recurrance.

Is chloroquine Diphosphate effective in treating as well? I ask because i was able to find this (CDiphosphate) for a reasonable quantity and price, about 1$ a gram. I was only able to find 100% CP in 25KG boxes and they wanted almost 8800$ for it and that would treat a public aquarium a few times over
