My journey using Chloroquine Phosphate begins...

I think I read that chloroquine phosphate makes the cures Ich differently than what copper dies it cause the Ich not to attach to the body?

I haven't seen that substantiated from any sort of authoritative source. I have asked Bob Goemans (author of The Marine Fish Health & Feeding Handbook) about this, and his response was that CP only affects the theront stage. Based on my observations, that seems to be the case. If CP affected the other stages, the spots would go away immediately and never return. Better to assume it only affects the theront stage and keep the treatment for 4 weeks. Fish tolerate CP extremely well, so there's no reason not to.

I think the CP from fishman is padded meaning theres more fillers than medication. Seem that the ick has gotten worst after dosing CP. Water went beyond cloudy.

Lost a laboutei and Lineatus. Maybe 2 hooded and 1 regal...sigh

I am using fishman and my Ich went away in 3 days. I let it go a full 25 days and no Ich showed up. I really think there are some bad batches of cp from fishman.

how many mg/gal are you dosing?

50mg/gal

I have a 100 gal tankw ith 30 gal sump. With displacement I assume my tank volume its at 110.

I just did a 50% water change.

Total death so far:

3 barletts
probably 2 hooded/nahackyi
labouti
lineatus

What I found strange is I thought CP was sppose to kill inverts, but I see a crap tone of bristle worms roaming across the floor.

Should I had used more than 50mg / gal?I had some laced food that I added, but they didn't eat.

What is also strange is that normally powder blues are ick magnet, but this one I have seem to have been cureed while the rest are struggling.

i did a 50% water change and added carbon. I am going to see if my regal angels will eat again...they stopped eating after i dose CP..when do you think i should start again?

Some ?s

Are you using CP in your DT with LR? If so, are there any corals/inverts present?

Did your CP come from Fishman Chemical?

What are you treating for? Ich? Velvet?

To Psionicdragon: Here's the thing; dosing CP w/LR introduces an X-factor IMO. Does rock absorb CP the way it does copper, thus lowering the overall concentration? Answer: Who knows? And without a CP test kit, there's no way to know for sure.

I also wouldn't trust any CP from Fishman Chemical. Based on anecdotal reviews, it seems likely some bad batches have come from them. This deeply saddens me because it's something like this which can quickly derail the comeback of an otherwise very promising med. You need to get your hands on pharmaceutical grade 99% pure CP.

Based upon your own observation of bristle worms still being present; I think it's likely one or both of the scenarios listed above is preventing you from having successful treatment.

I had poor results from using CP from Fishman. Crypt actually re-emerged when I dosed it. Once I switched to pharmaceutical grade (got a script from my vet filled at a local compounding pharmacy), the spots went away, never to return. If you don't want to use a vet, I posted a link to a source from Alfa Aesar (chemical supply company) a couple pages back.

I've been scanning this thread for info about chloroquine phosphate use for flukes, anyone have experience?

And I bought some on ebay, maybe that wasn't a good idea after reading through most of this.

It's unlikely that CP has any effect on internal parasites/worms (i.e. flukes). Just external protozoans (i.e. Ich, Velvet, Brook & Uronema). FWIW; alprazo confirmed earlier in this thread that he has used Prazi in conjunction with CP before.

Speaking of which, does anyone know what happened to alprazo? The system says he hasn't been logged in since 7/18/2013. His input is missed!

Thats what seemed to happen. The Ick intensify after dosing.
