My New 120 Tech Series

It took a while but finally I upgraded from my Oceanic 60gal to an Oceanic Tech 120gal. The tank has been running for about 4 months and water parameters are as follow:

Salinity 1.023
PH 8.2
NO2 0
NO3 0
Calcium 430
Alkalinity 12

The reason I posted because I’m looking for more water circulation but not sure what Tunze models I should purchase to simulate water currents. By the end of this week I will be adding additional rock work with a mix of Tonga branch rock to cover the pre filter box.

Equipment operating my tank:

Coral Life Pump Rate 1230 GPH
Coral Life Lights 2x250 HQI Lamp + 2x96w actinic
EcoSystem Refugium
Coral Life UV 18watt
Canister for my carbon
JbJ Chiller
Rk2 System
Titanium heater 500watt

Thanks so much!

Rob

Finally I was able to post a picture of my tank.

Wow - lots of tangs for such a small tank. Hopefully this thread will soon be followed by a "My New 240 Gallon Tank" thread.
Sorry - I am by no means a member of the tang police. but Naso tangs in a 120...and 2 of them? Along with 2 (or is it 3) Hippo's?

yeah hopefully there is a 300+g comming soon. there is no way 5 tangs will do well in a 4 foot tank ( especially the naso tangs)

Currently I have
1 Yellow Belly Blue Tang
1 Blue Tang
1 Naso Tang
1 Unicorn
2 perculas
1 Chrome

My fish seems to be happy what could go wrong? Also I want to add more water circulation what do you recommend?

I spoke to the retail store where I purchase my fish and they will be taking back three of the tangs and give me a store credit.

The good News I got a green light on purcahsing a 250+ tank from my wife as we are currently looking for a new home.

It all worked out perfect....

rob the tank looks very nice , i wish someone would answer your question instead of slammin you 4 your fish selection. if you really think about it we should all give up the hobby the fish and corals would be much happier on the reef. so instead of bugging you they should help you with your question good luck and maybe some korrilla 4 they are a little cheaper and work well.

If you're going to continue to keep mostly soft corals you're not going to need as much flow as a lot of tanks. If you think you're going to gravitate towards SPS you'll want more flow. I'd suggest a couple Koralia or Tunze pumps rated around 1000 gph if the former is the case and getting closer to 4000 gph using two or three pumps if the later is the case.

One other thing, make sure the Unicorn tang is one that goes back since even your 250 gallon will be far too small for one, the Naso is pushing it as well so I'd suggest just keeping a blue tang. Lastly, make sure that rock you're adding is fully cured and not just sold as cured by whomever you're getting it from. If you're getting it shipped to you make sure it's cured in a seperate container no matter what.

Peter > I'm looking to have a mix of Softy and Stony leaning towards the stony. I was thinking of putting two Nano Stream 6055 not sure if this is enough or not? As for the fish the Unicorn is leaving and the Naso as well.

As for the additional rock I purchased (Figi & Tonga Branch). I washed it with tap water and left it outside under the sun to kill the old stuff. My question is when can I put the rock work in my tank? Will it impact my livestock?

Thanks guys for all your support!

There is going to be decaying matter on that rock that can cause problems. At this point you might as well bleach it... Two nanostreams would be on the lowend or flow, but if you stick with softies and LPS it should be fine.
