My new 2" blue T. maxima

Not to sound negative my friend, but if the clam lives till the end of November I will be very impressed. Please keep me updated. Hopefully it'll be healthy, knock on wood.

Hopefully Project...hopefully.

Jeff's clams aren't always the healthiest. This one had a pyramidelline snail on it when I got him. I've removed it and have been looking.

Do you recommend that I move him into a bowl when I feed him? I do the transfer all under water so he's never exposed to air. Should I just dose DTs to the tank? I just like knowing its getting the max concentration of DTs when I bowl feed it. I put about 1.5ml into about 250ml of water with the clam in it.

Finally, what gave you the hunch that it most likely will not survive? Was it the picture or the size or what? Just wondering.

blulegend,
I would leave the clam in the tank when feeding it. Trying to get the highest possible concentration of food around the clam is not actually a good idea. The food clumps and the clam expells it meaning that a low concentration for a longer period is a much better option.

BTW, awesome clam. :eek1:

Updated Photo

I have updated the photo in my gallery of this clam because the original photo did not represent the true colors and pattern of the clam since it was taken using flash while in the feeding bowl.

The new photo was taken with the clam in under the main reef lighting without flash. This shows the true color of the clam and the pattern. Levels were slightly adjusted in Photoshop to remove a slight green cast in the white balance.

Project, so far so good still. I'm crossing my fingers and feeding every day. Calcium levels are steady at 450 and alk is steady at 12. Coralline is taking off again after my lighting upgrade.

He seems to be getting more and more acclimated to my tank and my lighting. I now place him under my refugium light (19W 6500K coil lamp from HD), about 6" away, while feeding in a container. I noticed his mantle extends quite a bit now and it seems like he is showing his true color better.

I've updated the picture on my site yet again.

Here are the two pictures to compare from 2 days ago (visit the site to see a larger version of the bottom picture):

He made it till the end of the month. Still looks the same as my latest picture above. Still feeding him DT's every day or every other day. Sometimes I just dose my whole tank about 2.5 ml.
