I've got a box delivered to me at work this morning that is supposed to contain a 4" Black tang. First time I have bought from this on line retailer so I think that I will wait until I get home in an hour and a half to open. Large box for a single fish so it looks like it was packed well. We'll see when I get home.....

I guess being single you don't have to answer to anyone.I guess thats why you can have as many tanks as you like.Hmm the single life:beer:

Very nice Goodwin. I am starting to wonder when one of your tanks will make tank of the month.
My tanks are a long ways from ever being considered for a honor like that. Four weeks from today, MELEV is going to be in town and can hopefully give me some advise for improving my tanks.......

It's got its advantages...but a wife that woud love to clean tanks would be great IMO

I guess being single you can have many types of women VS just one.I guess join a local ref club and try to find a single woman.I have met a cute girl who is into reef tanks, she works at a hair salon that my friend owns. The only problem is I am married but if you like meet her in person take a plane ride up here and I will introduce you to her.She is 25 (I think) and very petite. She is also single.Maybe Chuck we can make a love connection!

I can't wait. I tried to reply to your PM yesterday, but your PM box is full. Be sure to delete messages in your SENT folder as well. Be sure to select "from the beginning" in the View By field, to get rid of ancient ones you didn't know were there. I believe you can have 100 (or 150) PMs max. I rarely check the "Save to SENT" option under my PMs, to avoid the clutter.

I'm going to read this entire thread to find out how the tank has evolved, so I will be more up to date.

I saw your tank with Web Cam 2, until my (FireFox) browser crashed. It didn't like that Java software, it seems.

Steve, send me a picture. Canadian girls are hot, and I may want to steal this one from Chuck. ;)

My water guy came over to give me a hand taking out the twin 65 gallon tanks and installing the new twin 160 gallon tanks. If they had been an inch bigger in diameter, we wouldn't have made it back in the water area.

I left him to plumb it while I had to check out one of the football games. When he was finished....well, it wasn't the neatest job I have seen and there were a couple of drips that he had to take care of, but every thing worked the way it was supposed to.

Looks like I need to find a way to mark all of the valves.....

I hope you didn't pay too much for that sphaghetti job. I could do better drunk off my butt.

Fish is cute...they really packed that one in a lot of water eh? What is this company you got it from?

And what kind of system are you using to start and stop the pump etc.?

I think that he was ticked that I was watching the game rather than helping him out. All he had to drink (at my place) was Gatorade.

The fish came from Premium Aquatics.

The pump is on demand. I think that is the correct way to describe it??? With all of the valves shut, the pump stops until one of them are opened up again.

sweet. I may get an on-demand pump to supply my house with RO water. So how do you have your top-off system built? I have a SpectraPure LLC to control my booster pump and solenoid for the RO/DI, and then I have a LiterMeter III to control top-off water going to my systems.

For my 470, I have a separate 65 gallon storage tank that replenishes that tank using the JBJ Auto Top Off. Works Great! I set up the 600 using the same equipment drawing from the 100 gallon RO storage tank over in the corner. This worked fine for a week or two before it siphoned about 80 gallons into the sump and then all over the floor. Fixed that by putting a shut off valve at the sump, and now employ the "chuck stand at the power to the pump method, unplug when full and then close the valve". This highly sophisticated setup has only failed me once, when Chuck had to go answer the phone and left the pump running. Another 80 gallons on the floor. Since then, the system has worked perfectly.

For the remaining tank I use another highly technical setup called "Chuck & the 150 ft Python hose" This method has yet to fail.....

For tanks the size of yours, the Python is a PITA. Maybe you should come visit me? Then you could see my 1-1/4" 50' vacuum hose I use n my tank! :D

I think in the interests of your time and effort, continuing to upgrade your water change system will help out a lot. If I had that many tanks to manage, you can bet that they would all be plumbed for water changes, auto top-off, etc. I know how it is when you forget to turn something off, get distracted etc. so my water change system has built in protection. It is gravity fed and so the chambers can only "equalize" levels meaning that although I can fill the sump above my target level, I cannot overfill it to the point that water gets even near flowing onto the floor.

And let me be the first to say that this comes from major flood experience! Occassionally I forget to turn off the valve, like yesterday, and too much water goes into the sumps. In a situation like that, I measure the salinity and if I am spot-on, I will pump some water out, or transfer it to the QT as a water change. My QT has a top-off float from the main system refugium for acclimating new fish to the main system water when they are ready to go in.

Because of the sizeof my system (and yours) there is more leeway when it comes to salinity, but you certainly don't want a lot of purified water dumping into the system at one time, nor a bunch of kalkwasser for obvious reasons.

If you are interested in upgrading your water change method/system, I can post the elements I have built to give you some more ideas. I love using gravity so my system is purposefully based on gravity feed where it is practical.
