My new Gig and other confessions...

Liu... Ill try to get a photo of my overflow/return. Basically its a 2 in. pvc pipe with a half inch pvc pipe plumbed through it. Try to make it as clean as possible.

Elegance...yes. The gig has been doing very well and thriving. I also noticed that the gig has turned my onyx clown...onyx. Here are a few pics. As you can see the gig is larger. I havent noticed a great color shift yet, although there are some greener fingers if you look closely.

How old were the Onyx when you added the nem? It's possible they might have just been maturing and their colors filling in?

Hey this is a bit off topic, buthow big is your new cube?Im again updating and like the size of your.

BTW,your anemone looks great, hope it lives for you.

This is a glasscages 30x30x24 (90g) standard rimless. Its a nice tank, but there are some blemishes and as you can see from the photo, the silicon work is not the best either. The blemishes bothered me for about a day and now im focused on nurturing a healthy reef.

Yes... the gig is doing well, although the percs hosting it have passed during a bout of Ich. The gig is no longer yellow, but all green now. It has not moved at all and eats everything. It has grown, but i limit feeding because i don't want it to get too big too fast. Its probably twice as big or close to it. Im lucky because it is quite resilient as i havent taken much care of it at all.

Thanks Fish... The apartment is my paradise that overlooks LA's financial district. Cant wait to get off work and get home. Ill try to post some updated pics soon.

I thought id give an update on the Gig after one year in the tank. The yellow is green and as you can see from the pic, the gig is doing great. It has tripled in size, even though i rarely feed.

I love that tank, and the nem... looking beautiful and so glad you were able to keep it alive! Good work!!

Excellent job on proving me wrong!!!!!! I honestly don't mind being wrong in a case like this. You've done a great job!!!!!! Congrats!!!

Thank you... I read so many horror stories about anemones and Gigs failing, I feel lucky to have kept this one thriving. Cant say i do anything special for it except for perhaps the natural sunlight it receives daily. The clown has a mate hiding somewhere. Its odd about these percs. They will come close to hosting the Gig by swinging their tail in the fingers, but never truly dive head first into it. Maybe there is no threat in the tank?

Great photos! Shows how completely an anemone can change appearance from when it is bleached to when it has a healthy population of zooxanthellae. It's going to get BIG now :) Expect 18" diameter in a year :)

My original intention was to have an SPS tank, with one show fish. The GIG and perc was a cute co-star. But after a nearly year long battle with a Bryopsis type algae and a devastating strand of ICH, the only thing that seemed unfazed was the GIG. The SPS frags are now just starting to root after a year stunted by the algae and the Picassos are a new addition. I dont have any intentions of adding any other frags or fish... its gonna be a Picasso love den and hopefully spawn many offspring.

I love gigs, I also love making them happy if possible. here is an image of one I purchased about a year ago.
