~ My Shallow Masterpiece ~

Heres a few updated pics. put my first minor scratch in the front glass. and im using a sponge by hand to clean it...

crap!
its tiny, but im a pick picky...

heres some updated pics. i swung by the reef shop but they were not open yet, so i headed home. I ws out for errands anyways so NBD.

The tank is growing a bit of scum, but with light cleanings its taking care of that. gotta be even more careful cleaning the tank!!

One Month Parameters.

Salinity 1.022 (a bit low, would like 1.024)
PH 7.9 (touch low but OK)
Ammonia 0.10 ppm OK
Nitrite 0ppm OK
Nitrate 4.0ppm (doing a waterchange this weekend)
Phosphate 0.10 (a bit high but OK)
Calcium 562 (way too high, wont be dosing calc for a while till that comes down around 420)

Today was a bit interesting...

I topped the tank up last night before bed, and all was well. this morning i woke up at 6 to the tank sucking air. Hmm.. OK, topped more water up. (im half asleep right now) back to bed for an hour, and at 8:30 after my shower, its sucking air AGAIN!. i look, and the return chamber is half empty already.

well two steps later, my foot goes splash. I had probably 5 gallons of water across the bottom of the stand and the floor. So towels, and a hunt for the leak. Well my Phosban 150 blew its seal, and was draining at roughly a 15 ml/second. So for now its shut off, but need to be replaced. Darn!

Everybody is happy in the tank, the only trouble im having is getting the skimmer tuned. one time its too low, the next its too high and is wet skimming. and when i get it just right it seems to not foam up. i just walked away from it for a while.

Im headed sunday to grab some frags and maybe a fish. Ill update when i have more info.

also my tomini isnt eating the nori. tips?

i dont have a fancy lens, so heres a telephoto lens from across the room. :)

can anybody ID my sps's?

Monti

Zoa garden taking shape

Rainbow BTA

ID?

my BTA hasnt opened up since i got him, just curious if theres something im missing. hes the same as the picture above, has been like that since sunday.

tips? doesnt seem to be dying, doesnt seem to be doing anything. he hasnt moved an inch since i set him there.

Thanks!

i moved my nem to a shaded area of rock, he wasnt opening and he hadnt moved at all. Im hoping he can adjust at his own rate there instead of being blasted by the lighting. I assumed he'd be alright with a single gen 1 radion!

i need help with dosing. Whats the best things to dose, to get coral growth.

right now i dose calc, magnesium (dont have test kit though), iodine (weekly), and trace elements.

What should i be doing? this is my first stint with SPS and a nem.

Masterpiece: refers to a creation that has been given much critical praise, especially one that is considered the greatest work of a person's career or to a work of outstanding creativity, skill, or workmanship.

It's very nice looking & I appreciate the time & effort you put into it, but a Masterpiece is not how I would describe it :}

well its a good thing your not the one describing it ;)

BTA still MIA. was hunting for him last night, seems like he has gone under one of the caves and is staying put. how long roughly is he fine under a cave?

well my nem didnt make it. i noticed him kinda flat looking, i pulled him and chunks were already coming apart. tank is OK, so im glad i pulled him though i was very hesitant. ($70 nem)

anyways moving on, here she is now.

and since my tomini is warming up to me, i Finally got a decent picture.

well not a ton to update on. my tomini bullied my royal gamma and he died a few days ago. tank has been neglected a bit as ive been swamped with work, but i handed in my resignation on the 14th and tomorrow is my last day. going to get it cleaned tonight and ill take some fresh pictures of it. keeping it lps for the time being, cant keep up with work of sps.

Hi CRJ

I don't mean to sound critical and I am sorry for the loss of your RBTA; however, any measurable amount of ammonia is cause for concern. Do you have an update of your parameters? That value is actually very high and may have led to the Nem's demise. Big anemones are generally the toughest species to keep in our tanks. Bubble tips are the least demanding, but Haddoni's etc require husbandry to the point of a dedicated tank.

That being said; you should have zero detectable ammonia in your tank. If you do you will need to find the cause. The tank is beautiful BTW!

Regards

Neil

i should update this with a few pics. ill take readings tonight and see how things are going. i have had a couple frags bleach out on me, thouhg a few harder to keep have been doing great..
