~ My Shallow Masterpiece ~

Let me see if I got this. A six pack of Stella Adams? Good choice. Mark Martin in the good ol #6? Good choice. That man can still drive a car like no others (case in point this past weekend).

Nice tank though, great build and looks nice. Keep up the good work.

Subscribed. Love your tank. I am planning the same. Can you talk a little about your corner overflow. Did you consider going with outside overflow ? How big and how often are your water changes ? Super job. Can you pm me where you live in Ontario ?

im from Georgetown. The corner overflow is great, is a 3x5", which is just small enough to not be seen but still fit a drain pipe in it. be sure to get press in bulkheads though.

I havent done my first WC yet, as the tank is 14 days old. I will be doing 5 gallon at a time bi-weekly. thats about 8%. if i need to go to 10 gallon i will.

never wanted to go outside overflow really, plus the extra few hundred would have put the tank at over 1K and that was out for me. only think i woul change is putting the drain through the bottom of the tank. it would make the small overflow box and drain pipe easier to work with.

heres a quick video update.

for now ill probably keep to one radion. its only at 40%, and puts out plenty of light.

Get your hands on a PAR meter. You will be surprised how fast the PAR drops off as you move away from the axis. I strongly recommend all serious hobbyist invest in a PAR meter, especially when moving from MH/VHO/T5 to LEDs.

i never moved, i started with LED's. And im playing with an idea on this tank. no mechanical filtration and lower lighting.

Take a trip to a reef in the ocean, and check out par levels there. MUCH lower then in a tank with MH's

Are you going skimmerless?

Good luck with the experiment.

i do have a skimmer. im just avoiding filter socks and filter wool.

have done some research, and have had great success with tanks that have no mechanical filtration. my biocube ran none for about 6 months and was healthier then ever. no skimmer, no floss, nada!

A reef should not have filter socks, wool socks, or long coats. Let the live rock, tunicates, and sponges do all heavy lifting.

What setting on a nikon do you guys use for pics? have the hardest time getting a clear, bright photo. i havent touched my D80 in roughly 2 years till now.

following along. great build so far!! what made you change the aquascape at the last minute? (although i do like the big cresent shape with all that sandy bottom.)

I threw together a free frag rack from some old parts kicking around. it will work great while i get organized and start placing corals.

and my GF got me a $150 certificat to the coral reef shop. I think shes a keeper!
