Myka's 69 SPS Tank 2015

So I bought one of these cranky old things...Sfiligoi 400w SE and 4 T5. It is only 24" fixture though (tank is 36"). It has a Radium in there and Blue Plus. This will be my winter fixture. [emoji38]

Nice. I'd love to use two Radiums + T5 + LED over my new tank. But not happening.

This fixture will cover your tank with light no problem. Only issue would be corals growing towards to center as thats where the most intense area would be. Just be careful with PAR levels as that thing will throw out some serious PAR levels. :)

This fixture will keep your fish room nice and warm during the winter months Mindy. I have seen a similar unit made by Giesemann in my lfs, but it is 250W-version. I would grab it if I had a 24"-cube or similar.

Thanks Sahin, my Acros are laid out with the light lovers in the center anyway, but yes this is a concern for me. What PAR numbers were you getting with your 400w Radium? Right now with my ATI I'm getting 200 on the sandbed (I have it dimmed) under 19" of water.

My fish room is my living room, so that's perfect! :D Yeah, it's very similar to the Giesemann fixtures.

My guess is that this is is one of the following:

  1. fairy wrasse (Cirrhilabrus sp)
  2. flasher wrasse (Paracheilinus sp)
  3. spotfin dottyback (Labracinus melanotaenia)
  4. Seabass (serranus sp)

My money would probably on (1) and (2).

I was playing with camera settings today and found some settings that are pretty close to life. My focus was pretty good today too. The corals have really darkened/saturated since I started dosing Pohl's Xtra nightly a few weeks back.

Poor Hawkins fell down on the flubber below it, and got a boo boo. Here I thought it was encrusted onto the rock.

OP is a tad over-saturated in this photo, but it looks almost this good! Haha.

This is that wild Aussie microclados/nasuta. It's been coloring up really nicely since starting the Xtra.

Red polyped loripes starting to settle in.

I asked an Aussie wholesaler specifically for a blue Echinata. This is what showed up, I think a spath (only 24 hours in my tank):

This humilis is stupid bright. It doesn't matter what's going on in the tank, it always looks at least half decent. I'm waiting for it to start growing though.

The latest photos are outstanding. The red polyped loripes is my favourite. I would love to have it in my tank.

I have a question about your Cirrhilabrus fairy wrasse. Would it be compatible with a male sea fighter wrasse, which I have in my tank. It is showing some aggressive tendencies in that it flashes to any fish that he sees as a threat. It looks fascinating when he does that.

Beautiful colors! It's amazing how some of them like to encrust for a while before they start sending up branches.

Yeah, some of them encrust a lot first, and others just start branching out right away.

Thanks Bülent! I would send you a frag of the loripes if I could! I have sent out a back up frag of it to a friend already. I'd like another. :)

I had to look up Sea Fighter Wrasse, that's what I know as a Longfin Fairy Wrasse. In my experience, most fairies and flashers are relatively peaceful. I don't see flashing as a bad thing, more like excited/assertive. They can definitely flash when they are being "Hey, don't mess with me!". I do find that wrasses do better when there are several of them in the tank rather than just one or two. They like to be in harems, species mix is fine (as long as they are compatible species). The one I have pictured above is a small Fairy, only gets maybe 3 1/2".
