Mysterious fish deaths are more common now (Flukes)

I was wondering about adding carbon in between doses. Do you add carbon so you can take out all the prazi so you won't overdose on prazi during the second dose? If this is the case, why even add carbon if prazi breaks down after 3 days? I understand adding carbon and water changes after the second dose because you want to get all the prazi out of the tank, but cannot figure out why you would run carbon in between doses if prazi breaks down after 3 days?

Why should I FW dip if using prazipro in QT? Seems to me the FW adds unnecessary stress if treating with PP anyway.

I think I have fluke in my tank. I added a regal tang last week to my tank from another hobbyist and it is now twitching once in a while. Also, my purple tang is now doing the same thing. I noticed though that the purple tang as a white scratch like thingy on its fins. Could this be fluke? It will be impossible to catch all my fish in DT so I will dose the med directly in there. I have a 160 gallons tank. I only have snails and shrimps besides about 15 fishes atm but will add corals in two weeks. This med should be reef safe right?

just curious what were your results with your battle with Flukes

If prazipro doesn't work on the flukes, what other options are left?
I've used prazi and it hasn't worked. Do I keep freshwater dipping my fish, even though it's only temporary relief. How can I eradicate these flukes if prazi doesn't work?
I've confirmed that it is flukes from a freshwater dip.

Are you using PraziPro in the display tank. If not then the fish are becoming infected again once they are placed back into the display tank.

Do you know what species of fluke you are dealing with?

How long have you been treating with the Prazi? Also, are you treating in the display tank or a quarantine tank?

Do you think Prazipro will help with this kind of fluke?

I think it is neobenedenia, am I right?
I bought a fish about month ago and I didn't realice it was on him till I released it in my DT, first it looked like scratch but then I saw it was moving and it was clearly visible walking on his skin, I decided to catch the fish and made a 10 minutes FW dip and it fall of, it's been two weeks now and I don't see any other fluke on any of my fish but I want to tread my tank becouse my fish are scratching them in the substrate, so I think the next generation of flukes was born and now atached to my fish.

PraziPro just isn't doing it, so I decide to use Praziquantel (Powder), can I use the type that they use on Koi ponds or do I need to use a different brand?

I will be doing TTM,and use prazipro in each transfer.I know I have Ich,and a couple of fish really seem to have flukes.Shakeing the head and one eye is cloudy.

Just worried about the dosage or %, as PraziPro is lower and it's just not doing it. :hmm2:

Are you thoroughly shaking the bottle? As Bill said, PraziPro is praziquantel powder in some kind of glycerin. Nothing else to it. If PraziPro isn't working, you can try metro(much harder on the fish) and freshwater dips. Make sure you are doing multiple doses spaced ~5 days apart, in order to kill any newly hatched eggs.

Prazipro works like a champ. Had a Melanurus wrasse in QT exhibit the headshakes and other symptoms mentioned in this thread. He stopped eating and after reading this thread I realized his issues matched the symptoms described. Ordered the Prazipro on Saturday and didn't receive it until Tuesday and by that time the wrasse was laying listlessly on it's side at the bottom of the tank. I administered the Prazipro and already the next morning he is swimming and eating again. About 10-15 minutes after dosing you could see the dead flukes in the water column. Thanks to everyone that contributed to this thread.
