New frags and my first maricultured peices... and a second chalice frag...

Went to visit a buddy today on my way through Boston today, and picked up some new stuff in trade for some nice rock i had... 4 maricultured acro's, a small, but nice clip of ATL strawberry fields, and a 2 eye frag of Tyree emerald mummy eye... so am pretty happy, and feel it was worth a nice sunday cruise to hang with some like minded peeps

maricultered peices...

acropora loripes
acropora hoksemai
acropora suharsonoi (i am 99% sure this is the type of acro, will find out more soon)
and another acropora i need to ask the name of again, or have identified

and again, a small, but nice clip ATL strawberry fields (acropora sarmentosa) and a nice 2 eyes of Tyree emerald mummy eye...

i'll take a pic in a few ;)

the 5 new acros i got today... they are the 4 to the left side... they are gonna need some time, but in a couple months, they should be well on their way... and dont mind the Armor of Gods frags lol, anyone want any? they are free, and they got to go, lol

and a couple pics of the turn around my ORA red planet has made... the first pic is from today, the second is from about 3 weeks ago, about a week after nearly a complete bleaching... i added this peice around mid april... it has grown a little bit, but seems pretty hell bent on putting down a huge base before it does anthing else lol, damn stubborn corals lol...

<a href="http://s906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/Pallobi11/corals%20in%20color%202011/?action=view&current=IMAG0830-1.jpg" target="_blank"><img src="http://i906.photobucket.com/albums/ac268/Pallobi11/corals%20in%20color%202011/IMAG0830-1.jpg" border="0" alt="Photobucket"></a>

and this is when i first got the red planet frag about 10 weeks ago... you can see its freshly glued... so its base has grown out about 2" since...

sorry, horrible blue pic, but you can get the idea...

and one more comparison shot of my sunset monti... this peice was also obtained in mid april or so... you can see todays pic, followed by a pic from early to mid may... from this pic from may, you can probably tell how under colored it was the 3 or 4 weeks previously it was added... again, the 2 pics are about 6 weeks apart...

a complete and wonderful turn around imo

please notice, the new pic is on the top, and the bottom pic, is when i first got it after shipping, about 3 weeks into my care, it looked even worse when i first got it ;)

nothing starving in my tank :D

That's some looking great growth in your system. Very impressive!

thanks friend! i think i have been lucky and fortunate so far... but i am happy with how things have gone my first year... i cant wait to see alot of the peices i have added the last few months grow over the next year or so and see what they look like then ;)

its really nice when peeps can get past the look of my tank, that some may not like, and jus appreciate the corals themselves that i have grown :)

Yes .. U do have a different approach .
I would say "trophy coral showcase " .. with that artsy appeal mentioned in a earlier post
I like the clean build ...
U have quite a nice collection going on in there ..
How often do you change the t5 bulbs ?
Since you do not like macro . Have u ever thought of creating a cryptic zone with sponges ?

Have a great day
P

hey Percy... jus realized i did not respond to your questions so i thought i would...

i started my system off as a 40g breeder display last June of 2010... i used those bulbs, which i started with new, until january of this year, which i then replaced (36" 6 bulb teklight)... i sold the fixture a few weeks after that actually as i upgraded to the 75... i bought new bulbs along with the new fixture (48" 8 bulb teklight) in late january/ early february... i will be replacing the bulbs in about 2 to 3 months, as i dont want them going more than 6 or 7 months max... i know, i know lol, they are supposed to be good for a year, but i am all about performance, performance, performance, and i want to keep my bulbs fresh and the par up... so i plan on a 6 month cycle with all the bulbs i use, for t5, or halide for that matter (on what is going to be a frag tank)... jus how i plan on doing things... so no one needs to take the time to convince me otherwise lol...

as far as a fuge... i have a 65g tall RR tank plumbed into this same system which i keep 4 nice large peices of live rock in... and yes, it has sponges and whatnot, but not too much as it is lit a little bit as i keep critters in there as well... a coral beauty angel, and a pair of tank raised bangaii cardinals... along with upwards of 10 blue porcelain crabs, a pencil urchin, and a very large arrow crab... as well as some turbo snails, and a purple reef lobster that has his own in tank refugium to house him... but basically, this "fuge", which is barebottom btw, is only there to house live rock, as i consider bio filtration a huge part of any system... and dont feel i would have any luck without it...

Nice pickup! Best of luck, I'm going to be picking one up soon! Can't wait. They are soo interesting. :inlove:

thank you! and GL with yours... it is my first LPS, and as of today, it seems to being doing great... i also added 2 eyes of a Tyree Emerald Mummy Eye chalice, which was fresh cut, to my system on this past sunday, 2 days ago :) so far, it seems to be doing fine... i am really hoping chalices take well to my system in general... i would love to keep them too... also considering some favia's as well ;)

i also recently got my first chalice, it does not seem to like my high light tho and paled out after a few days. mine is a bubble gum monster. It looked awesome in the frag tank in the corner where not much light gets to it for a month beforehand tho.

i had the miami hurricane on my frag rack, which is about 6" from the water line... today i moved it as it was started to lighten up a bit on the top... i moved that one and the new one i got down to a small makeshift sandbed i made out of a cut shallow peice of plastic tupperware type container... i dont want to keep sand in my system, but i thought it would be best to let the chalice grow out on some sand... i'll post a pic in a bit so you can get an idea of what i mean... if these do well and i continue to add chalices, or even if these grow, i will make a nice little custom, shallow chalice growout box that will have a 1/2" of sand or so, and be no more than an inch deep overall... like i said, a sort chalice grow out box sitting on my barebottom of my display :)

GL with your BGM too!

new fish addition... well soon anyway...

new fish addition... well soon anyway...

i figured this would be a good time to add that i will be adding a new fish that i will be recieving at my next club meeting in a little less than 3 weeks from now on july 17th... i will be acquiring an Arabian Dottyback, tank raised, also called a neon dottyback sometimes... i hope to keep him in my display with my purple tang and 6 line, but i'll have to give it more consideration as these two fish are some of the feisty'est out there lol... if not, he will go in with my coral beauty and bangaii's...

beautiful fish though, cant wait to get him ;)
