The building is still under construction (as can be inferred from the caulk tube...) so I'm getting used to the idea that stuff WILL be left on the sill by the tank. Irksome, but apparently a fact of life

great pics. the tank looks very good. I am curious why it was designed kicked out from the wall. Is there some mechanical reason for that, or is it for aesthetics?

That is due to a "creative oversight" from the contractors. Suffice it to say that this build was frought with things like this.

well, honestly, it looks pretty cool...sort of makes it look more massive.

BTW, That is a scribble and they like to eat zoanthids, so if you see them disappearing, you can bet it's that naughty fish!

I'm keeping a hairy eye on him and sofar (knock, knock) he's being a good boy. Of note is the sailfin tang. When Scott and I were checking out the tank on opening day the sailfin took a delight in chewing zoas in front of us! Since then, he's not touched them. Maybe its the talking to he got, maybe its the 9mm I brandished to him.

yep i think those zoo's are going to be a gonner. lol the tank is looking good there barrott. the hawk fish will be a good addtion to the group. i see the calking gun in one of the pictures there. are the still working on that area of the building?

jnarowe the room was built like that becasue of the big sky light that is right above the fish tank. the way the tank sits in there they had to recess the wall so they were not covering the skylight up. that one thing caused alot of grief becasue that one part of the room was smaller than what they originally had said it would be. thank god all the equiptment was able to be shoe horned into the room. lol

yeah I have noticed my sailfin eating xenia, but not the zoanthids yet. One thing I would recommend is feeding the scribble and sailfin a lot of shredded nori (Kizami) if you can. When they are fat and happy, they tend to behave better.

Question: I'm about to build a smaller surge tank and am struggling with one issue. How much does the tank level rise when a surge tank drains into it?

Can that slotted drain scheme carry away the all the flow?

Actually pretty much anything and anyone in a medical setting is covered under HIPPA for very good and important reasons. ( Sory if the thread is no longer active ).

BTW Amazing job and couldnt have gone for a better cause.

no we had to put in an emergency surge drain so the tank would not overflow. the teeth are designed to run the normal amounts of water through it. the excess water runs to the sump from the emergency drain pipe.

there is a 3" elbo in the upper back corner of the tank. that is the emergency drain for the surge tanks. there is a screen over the top of it so the little fishies dont go for a ride down the water slide. it is designed so that when the water level in the tank rises all the excess water will flow down the emergency drain.
the surge tanks only run in the morning and evening to simulate the tides better. this way the tank will get stired up twice a day and the detritus will be removed during those times. it also will help to make the sps corals grow thicker and stronger like they are in the oceans.
