New Mag coming Cipro right away?

Live Aquaria sent me an "In Stock" tonight for a Sri Lanka Mag Anemone. I pulled the trigger and should have it Thursday.

Should I qt this guy with Cipro right away? I would assume that getting the anemone treated asap would heighten the chances of success. Throughout the cipro treatment reading it appears that there there is a point of no return with these guys.

I would absolutely be prepared. Somebody described shipped mags as looking like 'hammered dog $hit' which I think is true more than not. You might get lucky, but I would assume not if I were you.

I agree. The ones shipped from CA aren't QTed like the ones from DD. Definitely have Cipro and your QT tank ready to go. I recommend QTing the nem even without Cipro so you can watch it, assuming you can keep good water parameters in the QT.

It will be a 10 gallon with 5g changed everyday. No feeding. And an extra Vega LED over it for strong lighting

I got one from there and it looked bad when I opened it up. Once I acclimated it it perked right up.

I received the Mag on Thursday 9/26. In the bag he didn't look so good (gaping mouth, deflated, ect). I temp acclimated him (floating bag) for 30 min then water acclimated him for another hour (dump 1/4 cup of bag water and add 1/4 cup of tank water every 10-15min).

I then placed him in the 10g QT tank with a large airstone, small powerhead and a heater. I left him there for a couple hours before adding 250mg of cipro and turning the lights out (approx 2pm).

I turned the lights back on at 5pm to see if he was responding well, left the lights on for 5 hrs (10pm) before changing 5g and adding another 250mg cipro and lights out for the night.

Friday morning the Mag looked great. Finally inflated. The Mag did not deflate all day. His foot looks firmly stuck on the bottom of the tank. At 8pm I did a 5g water change and and added 250mg cipro and lights out.

Saturday morning Mag still looks great. I think I may put him in the display tank tomorrow if I do not observe any deflation. I will run another water change and cipro treatment tonight. What do you think?

So no Cipro treatment? I think you got lucky. This is my 3rd mag attempt, 1st with Cipro. The other two were tried 2 years ago and went through the dreaded deflation cycle before death.

Your anemone was sick. I treat for at least 5 days. 1 week is better.

Thanks all for the feedback. I can keep him in QT for 5-7 days. My biggest concern is ammonia creeping up. If I only change 50% volume per day toxins will increase daily.

Isn't this something I should be concerned about? The anemone hasn't deflated once.
