New Purple Gig.....

Any updates today?

I had to leave early today for some off-site meetings, but before I left I peeked while lights were off and he looked just like he did last night. Folded, changing shape, and our baby Onyx was sleeping in his folds... My Wife said he looked good and how he has been looking when lights came on..

I'll be back later this afternoon, but will ask for an update from her shortly... She's going to hate me for this, heh.

OK, finally got home and some updates... Wife was right, he got MUCH larger. Tentacles even appear a uniform "shaggier" length for the first time, that's real cool. I can see individual tentacles moving around they are that long! The Onyx is still in love with his new home.

From what I can tell, mouth looks nice and tight, Wife said it has looked like this all day.. I might move one of my MP40s down an inch or two to increase flow... So far, it hasn't moved from this spot, so the Gig obviously isn't angry. It actually moved down to this spot from where I placed it originally..

Seems to me, so far so good. Cipro will be here Thursday in case he goes downhill quickly. The QT is already built, egg crate fence area created and ready to go... hoping I don't need it!

That Margarita snail certainly caused some indigestion, but seems much happier.

Peter, how are yours looking today??

It does look better. Nice anemone

Thanks Minh.... I was out for work all day and was really worrying me being away... I came home to a huge happy Gig. The mouth I just checked is completely closed, and I don't see any white at all, just the yellow'ish bordered mouth....... Snails must not taste all that well :-)

This nem looks awesome, the pics are really showing how much it changes in color. Do you expect it to get purple-er?

Thanks! Yes this Gig will absolutely color up, to a nice dark purple color, and much shaggier tentacles....

Updates in general... Got home, and fed the tank, so the power heads are in feed mode (hence why the Gig is resting more flat). He's folded, changing shape, and I can't even see his mouth much. The one time I saw it, completely tight with no white anything protruding out of it. What do you guys think?

Honestly, the gig is probably another 2-3" larger than yesterday, so maybe acclimating is going well and he's getting comfortable?

I think it's looking much better. Looks like the tentacles are slowly getting longer. Just keep an eye on it until the tentacles get even longer and less "haddoni-like" (not sure how to describe the short stubby tentacles) and it starts to color up. Now that it's expelled most of its zooxanthellae I'd expect it to turn more brown, with purple tips on the tentacles.

I did notice that too, the tentacles are actually not just nubby, they are independently moving around and waving so they are getting length.... it's neat to watch it daily. I get exactly what you mean by less Haddoni like, I've seen a couple and that was my big worry when I first saw the Gig.... excited to see it's doing better.

How long of a process would the browning and the regaining of the zoo be? I've seen some Gigs go 3-6 months even depending on the severity of the bleaching... Should I offer any food anytime soon or just let it live off the Radions?

Last observation... It has moved itself to a spot that doesn't get a lot of crazy chaotic flow, it's kinda a corner spot in my tank... I'm increasing the intensity of my MP40s slowly as the sand begins to better settle in this tank, so it will get stronger... For the time being, it seems to not like getting tossed around quite as much as some of the other Gigs I've seen.. Either way, it chose this spot as I had it up a little higher in more chaotic flow Sunday night.

Thanks for your observations! I'm starting to feel better day by day with this Gig.

You should see it brown up in weeks. By 1 month if it does not brown-up or at least start to brown up you are in for a rough time. These anemones lost all of their zooxanthallae and will need to acquire these from the environment. If this happen, you got to do a zooxanthallae transplant, feed it food with some tentacles of a not bleached anemone, the same species if at all possible. One person did this and documented it here on RC several years ago. IMO, it works but it is hard to draw definitive conclusion with a sample size of 1.

Thanks Minh. It really is looking better just watching it daily.. The tentacles are getting longer, moving independently, and just becoming overall "shaggier". It's an amazing process to watch and I hope the Gig just keeps going...

Regarding the length of the tentacles.... What time period would you expect them to get to a "normal" length, and when should I start introducing some food? I don't want to stress the Gig out too much by introducing food too early, but I also don't want to starve it.

OK, so just some more updates.. nothing exciting besides tentacles are slowly getting longer.. It was pretty funny to watch my Onyx swim back over to the GBTA that is in the middle of the tank (his old home for almost 1.5yrs) and come right back....

its looking alot better :) very nice, should color up to be a nice gig

Thanks! We just picked up a baby Onyx to go with the one we have, so about to release him into the Gig, so we'll see how they pair up. Overall I think the Gig is looking awesome to me at least... I'm excited to see over the next week or two as it colors up and gains it zooxanthellae back.

very nice, much better and happier.

Thanks Peter. Yours are looking happy as well. Both mouths nice and tight?

Nothing new to report.. The Gig is huge, tight mouth, and looking awesome. Baby Onyx has been accepted by the female and are living together in the Gig. I had LASIK today, so no pictures... tomorrow I should have a visual update!

Updates from this morning... The Gig has been catching food whenever I feed Rod's and it seems to grab whatever it can, and eat it very quickly.... pretty happy about that... here are some pictures at 6 days in at sunrise, so only light blues........

What do you guys think?
