New Purple Gig.....

Updates from this morning... The Gig has been catching food whenever I feed Rod's and it seems to grab whatever it can, and eat it very quickly.... pretty happy about that... here are some pictures at 6 days in at sunrise, so only light blues........

What do you guys think?

Great news. I think this is the best way to feed it at this point -- small particulates are easier for the nem to digest.

Thanks guys. I'm about to do a 15G WC and slowly bring my salinity down. It's on the higher side right now, 1.027 and I'm working to bring it slowly down to 1.025-1.026 one WC at a time.. So far the Gig is happy, and still looking awesome today. Thanks guys. I'll probably do updates every other day as things look cooler. Tentacles are certainly getting bigger, I can see that daily.

Don't worry too much about the sg. Don't forget that gigs are often found in tide pools and very shallow water where the sg can get higher than normal. I typically run my tank at .026 and the gig likes it just fine.

Yea, I'm just doing it for the entire tank really in general not just the gig. I'd like to be at 1.026... Good to know yours does well at .026.. I'm becoming pickier than I ever was with my old cube.

Updates from yesterday. Tentacles are really getting bigger now, some in the first few rows are very big... In general, i can sit here and watch them all moving around with the current independently. Those pieces of shrimp are really helping!!!

I don't want to think I am completely out of the woods yet, but so far so good now going on over a week in the tank, same spot, and happy as can be... I target fed a piece of shrimp on Saturday, and it wasn't even in his tentacles for a second before it was gone in a fold. Amazing how responsive this guy is, and beautiful!

Been a couple of days, he's eaten some krill since then.. tentacles getting bigger and shaggier daily. The color is beginning to quickly turn darker (purple) and I can see a little darkness in some of the tentacle bases...... Thinkin' that's a positive sign.

I tried playing with white balance.. let's see how this works out.

So I noticed more in detail today something that I have seen since day one, and not sure if it's normal...

On the mouth, the top part of the mouth it looks like it's torn possibly.. The yellowish rim on the mouth stops for a tiny tiny bit, and there is white-ness there. I'm not really worried about it because it doesn't seem to bother the Gig one bit. My guess is, it's healing.....

Tentacles are now getting bigger and not just by the mouth area, but on the edges too, when the MP40s hit it randomly they are shaggy like a carpet and they are getting and as well I can see some darkness in the base of the tentacles...

Like I said, it looks better everyday and I think the mouth is just healing, but just an observation.

i think you are being obcessed with it......... but then again i dont blame you as i've been there, done that and still do :D

Agreed... I leave the house for meetings and don't think about it, it'll be fine, but when I'm sitting right here I always stop by and check it out on the way upstairs... Honestly, I'm just amazed it has not required any cipro.. Like I said I was cautiously optimistic, and just happy it's gone so well so far...

Here are some updated pictures from today. I had my brother come by with his better camera lenses and his skills..... Hope you guys can see the tentacle length exploding with the every other day feedings of krill... I'm on the hunt for Selcon which will only help further...

I'm feeding him little krill pieces soaked in garlic for the time being. Currently trying to find some selcon to soak the food in. So far so good.... It's a large Gig and I'm finding that out as it gets larger..

Holy crap... Just saw my Gig spit out a full sized 2" conch out of its mouth...... This sucker is hungry. That's snail #2 in two weeks of being in my tank.

R.I.P. clean up crews.

I can never keep snails and crabs for long in with my Sebae, they always end up as lunch after a few weeks or months.

Haha, you are carefull to feed him small peices of krill, meanwhile it is eating like conch with shell and foot attatched.

Yea, there goes the feeding slowly thing out the window... The tentacle length is getting incredibly cool to watch as it progresses... I just ordered Selcon which will be here on Wednesday, so from then on everything will be dipped for added nutritional value.

Meanwhile, I'm hoping to score a green gig here soon.. I have my 20G QT ready, cipro on hand, and it won't touch the DT until it looks good and passes treatment (if necessary).
