for those who are considering modifying the non-recirc models, keep in mind that all of the fittings on these skimmers are metric fittings and US standard fittings and plumbing will not work with them.

Wouldn't you replace the fittings anyway if you were to do a recirc mod on one?

I got the new induction assembly and it is MUCH quieter. Must have been a problem in manufacturing with the other. Im pleaed now. :)

Hope mine doesn't have this problem. How did you get the new induction assembly?

Dont worry you wont... I cause the problem. I tried to mod the assembly and screwed it up.

I called them up and had them send me another.

Hello,

I am planning to buy the Octopus 3000 Protein Skimmer! Do you think that is a good Skimmer ?

My tank is 86g + 50g for the sump ?

I am afraid that the skimmer overflow and the water goes on the floor, so when I will go back from work, I will find 30-50 gallons of sea water on the floor. Is it possible that this skimmer overflow ( spill water on the floor) ?

Does this skimmer can be put in a sump ?

Best Regards

wow that was confusing. This can be run inthe sump if you have room. For that size tank i would go with the 2000.

What size tanks are you all running them on? Any one using them on a tank close to or over what they are rated to run. Would you say they can handle the load they are said to or are they good at half the rating?

im running it on a 75g, with 30g sump. I just made my first water change after installing the skimmer and the water looks exactly like freshly mixed saltwater.

I have a Octupus NW-200 skimmer instead of the recirculating one that everyone here is talking about. Had it for a week now and just clean the cup yesterday

Here is the skimmate after 24hrs:

Wow, that looks nice! With the prices of the ASM skimmers being raised so much, these skimmers are even more appealing.

That skimmate looks far too watery for my liking. I'll be impressed when the skimmate looks like this ....

Good skimmate.
But the dude on top the is skimming wet.
Lower the water level in the neck and he will get some good dry skimmate.

I wish i could post some nasty looking skimmate as i thiink this skimmer is capapble. PROBLEM: My tank just doesnt have anything to skim. :(

Point taken ... anybody achieving dark skimmate? What model are you using and what is your tank size / bioload?

Tone

My skim is like a dark tea or light coffee. I feed the tank after dark 3 times a week with DT oyster eggs and cyclop eze. I have maybe 9 or 10 fish.
