New Reef Octupus Skimmer Thread (Pacific Coast Imports)

I never had a G3, I had a G2 which I modified for external use with a gate valve and the recirc mod. based on the performance I saw with that skimmer I would take an RPS-2000 any day.

I've seen a couple of people say the RPS-2000 skims better than the RPS-3000? Is that true? I'm trying to decide which one would be best for my 90. Not having seen one in action, I'm not certain a RPS-2000 is better than my current ASM G1X with the recirc mod. But the RPS-3000 is considerably bigger with a much bigger pump, so it looks like a worthy upgrade. But if the RPS-2000 works better, I don' know.

OK, well you guys have a new guinea pig. I just purchased an RPS-2000. I finally went with the 2000 over the 3000 because the 2000 will actually fit under my stand. I toyed with the idea of putting the skimmer next to the tank, but decided I just didn't like how that would look.

hey tone,
who are they being sold through here in aus?

A crowd on the Gold Coast called Abyss is supposedly the distributor, but they don't sound like they know too much about marine equppment. They promised some "release" of the skimmers via selected LFS some weeks ago but nothing seems to have happened.

Problem is that there are too many 'one-line garage operators' getting distributorships who don't know the hobby that well and can't support the market, all wanting to become millionaires off the proceeds. Effectively nobody buys the products because they're pitched in against high-end established models. There have been some excellent skimmers and accessories out of Singapore that have been over-priced and stuffed-up because they don't know the market.

Ciao,

Tone

I will try to post some photos of my 3000 today. I should have done this weeks ago but its been busy.
I have run the 3000 for about a month now and it is great. heres the spec's
OLD
Aqua C 180
20 watt UV
Aquanode ES500 controller with ORP probe.
240 gallon reef with Plenum
PH held 8.3 noon
ORP best ever was 335

NEW
UV=GONE
Aqua C=GONE
ORP 399 at 8am and 418 to 425 later on.
Less gunk growing on rock, less gunk growing on gravel and corals look better.

i added the Recirc 3000 I bought from Skip. it took me 2 days to get it dialed into where i wanted it run. I had to cut 1/4 inch from the top cup, cut off the bottom cup drain and drill it to the side of the cup. My stand is exactly 30".

I have watched my ORP climb almost daily. The skimmer is very quiet, and is full of very tiny bubbles. the skim isnt dry as some may want. i perfer a wet skim and this thing has been producing dark tea/green foul smelling gunk. this skimmer is amazing on how well it works. I do see that some of the prices on line have gone up but this skimmer is still worth the price. I actually think Skip has a few more. you could PM him and get pricing. He is in Tempe AZ. Good guy.

I would reccommend this skimmer to anyone.

Sean

for those w/ the 3000, what size output pipe does it have?
my stand is too short andi have to run it outside the cabinet
so i need some pvc. sizes.
thanks.

Hi Tone,
You are exactly right in what you are saying, I think this is why some guys resort to looking overseas to buy product. Its not only a pricing issue but support of the product, its nice to have correct information on what your purchasing.
Thanks
Chris

Let's clarify . Skip didn't sell you a skimmer the store he works at did :D Also the store skip works at has a few more and I am sure they can get more . I even saw the PCI calcium reactor there also .

Thanks for the clarification Chris. It would be true that I am an Employee and not the owner of the store in question and therefore a simple hobbiest and not a commercial entity.

Clkwrk,
True, Skip himself didnt sell me the skimmer. the store he works at did. I assumed that based on his Avatar and it stating "LFS employee" i didnt need to be that detailed. However we all know what happens when you assume

sounds pretty cool! so lets see those pics of it in action!!!

I have a bunch of photos but I dont have a way to post them. All my photos are 1.5 meg and it wont allow anything bigger than 50k. I dont have a web album. Any ideas on the best way?

or there is a windows powertoy called "image resizer" that works very well for reducing the size of the image, or you can change your camera settings to make the images smaller.

Well, I ordered a 2000 today

Well, I ordered a 2000 today

I got a very good price from Matt at reeftanksupply.

I bet it is going to be total overkill for my system. I have a total volume of about 47 gallons including the sump.

I'll make sure to let you all know how it turns out.

Ron

Here goes. Tank is kinda bare and i cleaned the skimmer yesterday. What you see is 1 day worth of scum.

Wow, sweet!!! I can't wait to get my 2000 now! For those who have seen the 2000, is it as chock full of white bubbles as the 3000? Man I wish I had stand space for that big boy. My stand is exactly 30 inches as well, but I don't know if I could handle the mods. Oh well, the 2000 is already ordered, so no going back now.
