canesfan44, yep, that's about all you need. Again, just make sure that the cup drain will protect you from an overflow...
1) collection vessel in the sump or 2) auto shut-off collector and some electrical tape.

I use option #2.

One more thing, you need to make sure that the outlet pipe on the RPS-1000 is tall enough to clear the wall of your sump (unless you plan to drill it). You can't run the outlet up and over the side or the skimmer will flood.

Again anyone that ordered from reeftanksupply how long did it take?

Its been two business days now and they are still "Processing" my order. They already took the money though

Thanks if it took a week to get from Kansas to North Dakota I guess I have some more processing to wait thru.

waiting

waiting

i ordered a rps-2000 on the 25 and still havent heard anything fomr them saying it was shipped.last email ig ot from them says processing and that the manf. is goin to dropship the item...anyone know how long thats goin to take?weeks?months?years?!?!

I recieved my rps-3000 today! Holy cow that thing is huge!! I will take pics when I get home, and during setup and such.. It got here quick. Ordered it Friday, they shipped on Monday, and got it today! Not bad for shipping to Alaska!!!! =)

Guess I jumped the gun got the "Order shipped" email like 20 minutes after my post sweet.

Ouch on the dropship.

I ordered my RPS-1000 last night at midnight and haven't heard a word since.

I would have went bigger, but it's only a 50g tank, so undertank size is limited.

<----- He'd probably have a hayday with an external skimmer anyway, so I've got to keep it in the stand.

Will post pics when I get it.

Daniel

Just so everyone knows customaquatic will price match reeftanksupply's prices, and I heard from them really quick..

block, thanks for the advice, I'll be sure to test for skimmer for overflow immediately after setup. I'll be ordering the 1000 tonight.

I'll also need to make a little stand for the skimmer, to get the overflow high enough to fit over the refugium's wall.

Ok. I took a few shots of the 3000. For those of you who aren't quite sure how big it is.. (I was one of them). I added my Motorolla cell phone for scale.

This is how tall it is:

This is looking inside the collection cup:

This is for those of you that are interested in the pump specs:

So do you think this is overkill for my current setup?
Main tank = 55 gal
Sump = 30 gal
Fuge = 10 gal
Total water volume = 95 gal

Good thing I am getting a bigger tank the fall!

:D

Don't you just love all those little styrefoam pieces that get everywhere when you pull it out of the box! This thing is a great skimmer. Here is a pic of the gunk this thing has pulled out in the last three days.

This is a gallon jug

Man.. let me tell you about those styrofoam things.. It took me at least 30 mins to vaccume them all up, and get them all off of me.. I still think I have a few on me somewhere 'cause I keep finding them!

Parts are soaking in vinager and water..

Good move to run the recirc in a vinegar solution before setting it up. Took me 2 days to get the foam to stick! These monster skimmers have an enormous acrylic surface area to de-scale.

And the Styrofoam balls are something else!

Mines skimming nicely but I feel that it's only 50% of what it can achieve with higher air flow (still only 300 - 360 L/hr maxed out)

Tone

I will hook mine up to a dwyer and see what I am getting.. If it is under 7 L/m i am going to modify the venturi a little. I will let you guys know how it went..
