My mertens was pretty good at catching food meant for the fish, i.e. mysis, Formula 1, Rod's food etc.. Of course it took up half the tank, so it caught quite a bit. Out of a cube of Formula 1, I figured he would catch about a quarter of it. I only target fed it once every 2 or 3 weeks as well.
Clowns are pretty territorial and once they find an anemone they don't care much whether or not it is their natural host. If your anemones are in different areas of the tank, I would be worried that one might adopt the mertens and leave its mate. In clowns sometimes the desire to be the king of you own anemone wins out over the desire to be a pair. In the wild, potential mates are always drifting by. Anemone homes are hard to come by. Since there is only one breeding pair per anemone, it benifits the species to have pairs in all the anemones. If the anemones are close, it is not a problem. If they are on opposite sides of the tank, you may end up with two single clowns defending their anemones from each other.
I had a pair break up that way.
