New S. Mertensii

Getting bigger...its probably hard to tell just by looking at the pictures.

Like the first picture of the new set. Even though I don't know what it looks like in real life, I have a feeling that that one is the closest.
 
Seem to me, the current rock back and ford too fast. I would slow the change direction much more. One direction for 3-8 seconds then the other direction.
 
Oh my! I wish you guys could see what I'm seeing with the MH off and just the actinics on. I tried to take a picture and it just didn't look like what I was seeing. All the orange and yellow tips look like they are glowing under the actinics. wow.
 
I would not hesitate to feed it little bits if it is keeping its mouth shut. As posted a bazillion times, I am a fan of mysis and lancefish.....not sure the anemones care, but they seem too :D

I had Tunze streams over mine as well, but it was moved with a bit less alternating flow than depicted. 7min alternations approx. It climbed the rock pile and parked 16" away from and XM20K 400wt MH.

I'm just kidding. All's fair in love, war, and sea anemones.

It does look much better under your lights than it did at the store. I can't wait to see pics after it has had time to settle in.

I still think it would look better in my tank.:lol:

Seriously i thik the flow is perfect, its not enough to blow up the oral disk enough to see it.

My gigante loves the back and forth flow with some directional flow to occasionally blow up the oral disk.

It looks like its in a low coastal area, it seems to be settling in well and enjoying the motion. If i could i would send you my camera and dive case to underwater shots. I love it for my tank too.

Here is a monti cap in my tank with just actnics.

I think slowing down the frequency would be better aesthetically (it makes me a little seasick watching the video). I'm not sure the anemone cares.

FWIW: The flow for mine was enough to move the tentacles, but only lifted the "skirt" every once in a while. As it starts to spread out a little more, the verrucae will start to attach to the rocks and it will be able to hold its own against the current better.

I have a sealife dc500 dive camera that takes good pictures but I never thought of using it to take pictures of stuff in my tank. :p

I would be saying the same thing if you had it.. This purchase made me so nervous.. I just really wanted one for my two chrysopterus. I hope to see them in it tomorrow..or I will still see them in the purple LTA.:rolleye1:

That is good.. because I can't do anything about the waves. My husband says we can't make the waves calmer on that side of the tank without just turning the wave box off. The waves are like that because my tank is only 60in long. The frequency of the waves are based on the size of my tank. The further away you get from the wave box the stronger the current. Am I making any sense? I actually like the waves to be a lot stronger than it is right now. The better the waves, the more junk taken out of my tank. My skimmer has been working much more efficient ever since I added the wave box.

If you guessed in the purple LTA you would be right...sigh.. oh well, its giving the anemone some time to get comfortable with its home.

When i got my gigantea it took my akinydos pair awhile to move over. Some tentacle bitting and ripping off and swallowing and then two days later they were in.

I know these are different, but....

Back when I had my my PLTA, when pink skunks ignored my Haddoni until I removed the PLTA.
 
I would understand it if the purple LTA was a natural host for these fish but it is not..:lol:..this is the reason why I'm amazed that they haven't even wandered to the other side of the tank yet..I think I saw the female looking at the mertensii yesterday. It might have been just wishful thinking and I imagined it.

When I am able to start feeding it good sized meals..how often should I feed it? I read in a book that these anemone should be fed a teaspoon of food every day. Is this true or should I have it on the same feeding schedule as my LTA? I feed the LTA once a week some times once every two weeks. TIA of any answers to my questions.
 
Mine gets mysis whenever the clowns do. I don't specifically feed it, but it always seems to get something. It is approaching 2 1/2 feet in size after about 1 year. Sorry, no updated photos (see my location for explantion).

True, I would have thought that yours would have moved over sooner. But, clowns are goofy that way. My skunks completely ignore my other Haddoni in the tank -- even when theirs decides to pull completely into the sandbed.

That is going to be up to you, but every anemone that I have ever had got fed about once every 2-3 weeks, or whenever I remembered to do it. ;)
