New Stream Holder and proper use of mounting hardware

Available in the UK?

Available in the UK?

Roger

I'm UK based and have just got a couple of streams + controller very impressed with the flow etc. I like the look of the deco holder, is this coming from Germany ie will therefore be available in the UK, or is it a US special ? Nobody here seems to have heard about them - definitely the way forward though

hi col,

I sell Tunze in Australia and we will be suppling the Tunze Decor I am sure the UK will have them a very new product Rogers creative baby!

Graeme

It will be available from Tunze. I was told it should be ready in about 4-6 more weeks- at the same time as the new catalogue.

Graeme, Roger

Thanks for the swift replies. I'll contact my dealer and get my name on the list as I have no doubt that they will be very popular. Excellent idea Roger - keep'em coming. Any plans for a Turbelle disguise too ;)

Cheers, Col

Yes, it swivels.

45 degrees each way from center on the streams so if you have it mounted on the back of your tank the best you can do is blast the front on a 45 degree angle. Sure wish it swiveled a lttle more (like a full 180). I also wish the instructions were written a liltle more explicit on assembling the mounting bracket . BTW, to anyone wondering the adapter kit for U.S. style aquariums contains 2 bolts and a suction cup (no instructions). Other than that these thinks do shoot some water, are quiet, and obviously don't burn much power.

I just got the new brackets and upon installation of the clamp, by hand, the screw head snapped off. I was actually connecting wires on the controller when I heard a snap and saw the pump lying on the bottom of the tank. I hadn't even turned it on yet and the screw broke. What do you suggest? I followed pics in the posts and diagram that came with the holders.

Thanks, Jon
120 oceanic with perimeter glass

It worked on the Oceanic with perimeter brace I showed. The clamp pieces are 70 percent glass fiber and quite strong, the screws are carbon fiber reinforced and the rail is also a glass fiber reinforced plastic. It is quite strong. You might have a problem if you used the entire length as I did in the pics above but for 3-4" no problem. The key is too have it cut right so the vertical drop is against the pane and given some support . Also, the Streams may be a problem if angled strongly, but at a straight 180 from the bracket it will work fine, otherwise it may be blown to the side. Their are a few rubber dampners that help the holder grab and stay in place.

I will send you a new one- PM the address but I will still insist that too much torque was applied the inside screw is to be tightened to snug and the outside facing screw is just a final tension- no brute force by hand or screwdriver is involved.

Thanks Roger,
BTW, Do you use those starwashers on your brackets? I couldn't force myself to put metal in my tank. How do I go about purchasing screws in the future? I know my local hardware store has nylon screws and nuts.

Take Care,
Jon

Nylon is too soft and will bend/break. Stainless Steel will not corrode if fully submerged or fully exposed. A galvanic reaction occurs on partial submersion. The small trace of iron is harmless to the aquarium even if it does corrode. I sell spare parts direct. The screws are metric thread and not going to be available outside of special order and a specialty screw, nut and bolt store.

Stream 6080s with 3000.26 attachment

Stream 6080s with 3000.26 attachment

Months after Roger Vitko sent me a detuned propellor for one of my Stream 6080s and two 3000.26 attachment kits, I finally installed everything in my 150g:

I removed a Reeftec unit on 6/15/2003 and replaced it with a Tunze Stream 6080 that has a specially detuned propellor courtesy of Roger Vitko. The detuned propellor puts out 1600gph vs 2250gph. I had this modification made since two full power 6080s created too much flow for my tank. The modified 6080, in addition to an unmodified 6080 on the other side of the tank, provide the perfect flow for my 150g which includes a mix of SPS and softies. Instead of a detuned 6080, it looks like Tunze now also has some lower powered Streams (6060).

I also installed the 3000.26 extension units, and they have a very clean look compared to the large brace for the Reeftec. The extension units allow one to install a Stream against the wall of an acrylic tank even with the large lip at the top of most acrylic tanks. I hope the increased flow from the Streams helps get rid of my excess hair algae which seems to be sloughing away.

I was delayed in my installation for almost half a year because I have a 30-month old daughter and a 4-month old son who were occupying my attention - things have calmed down a little bit now. My tank saw some neglect, but the algae is now clearing up and the corals are coloring up again.

Just wanted to post this since Roger is great to work with and the Streams work very well. You can check out the pictures of my Stream 6080s and tank at:

Since this thread is still breathing I thought I would add that althought I bought the adapter mounting kit for my 6060 stream I ended up scraping it and mounting the stream to my AGA overflow. This has worked out very well and allows me to position the flow so it shoots parallel to the back of the tank. Roger, nice product...quiet, powerful, and hardly any heat noticed. Now if you could just make it invisible :D .

How about using titanium bolts to mount the brackets. I know that titanium is expensive but on a pump that already costs a couple hundred dollars it hardly seems like it would matter.

I am sure they are available. Incedently- I found some screws at home depot that might work. In their bin section they had M5 screws but they had Allen head and 10mm bolts only in this thread and size. If you can find Titanium I would say go for it. We use a blackened steel on kit 3000.244 and it seems to hold up very well.

Hi Roger:

I am looking for information on your ts24 system, along with pricing and availability. I am putting together a plan for a new 180 Reef system and seriously considering it for water movement. I would appreciate any help you could offer.

Thanks in advance,
Craig

Hi Roger,

Its been 4 weeks since your last post on the subject and I'm wondering whether the Stream Decor Holders have become available. If so where would I buy one? Also, do they come in a coraline color or only white? If not in coraline I'd like to suggest that they be made.

Thanks,

Jon

I think that somewhere it was stated that they should get coated in coralline given time anyway.....the holders that is. I think it's better that way cause plastic purple things don't look too natural usually IMO.

Neither would look perfectly natural, but I think a coraline colored pinkish rock would look far more natural than a white rock as the rock was getting coated in coraline etc. And when they were coated in coraline, it would not make a difference.

true....actually I was wondering about making the thing look more like base rock in terms of color and texture ya know?

Not available yet- I did however get an invoice for them but no slated delivery time. They are white ceramic. This type of ceramic rock is very popular in Europe and entire reef tanks are built with it. Coraline and polyps will grow on it. I have never seen the ceramic made in a color. It is kiln fired after being cast by hand and I think the color is not an option except as a glaze and I seem to remember glazes contain lead and metals from a ceramics/pottery course I had in college.
