New tank with LED light

Mate,

You have a lovely set up. You should be proud. I like the soundtrack too. Which software did you use to prepare your video. I am tempted to follow your footsteps.

I used Adobe premiere pro to make the vid

took some pics today

Hi Rodney,
I had the exact same acro as the one in the bottom picture it got as big as tat then start dying off slowly from underneath, in fact all my acros eventually go that way. could you give some advise as to what you think the cuase could be, I have had some amazing colonies all of them to go the same way, its never tip down but always underneath starting in patches and real slow.

Just about to start a new tank and dont want to have the same struggles.

dammmm...just ordered 2 mitras for my tank....would you mind sending me your project for them
sure thing, PM me your email and ill send it through

Do you have enough flow in your tank, especially make sure to get flow at the base of the corals too...as the tanks grow out flow becomes more important to get to the bases of our corals or they die off. might be a pest also?

i did think pest but it seems to happen after a long period of anything being put in, flow sounds a possibility.

The new tank I am starting out with milli's and monti's I have always been able to grow these like weeds ;) But I have always wanted to have a stag horn forest after diving in the Maldives

Hello Rodneyri, I have brought one Mitras for my 30" tank but light colour didn't tune to like as your amazining tank colour. Could you share your project to me for reference? Thank you very much!

The new light is up and learning how to use it

Damn mate that big alk drop you had has left it's mark for sure. Is everything a bit sulky still as the colors look muted in your latest FTS or is that just you not being used to pics under the new hybrid ATI fixture. Considering your talent with SPS i don't think it will be long before you have reef full of brightly colored corals (tips inc) once again.

Hey Andrew, the tank is still sulky lol its looking pretty bad still those shots were taken today so you can see the loss. Fingers crossed it comes back :)

I'd be inclined to maybe snip a lot of the dead tips off rather than see the algae get an annoying foothold on the tips, some SPS are very efficient at overgrowing algae and not a problem as you know but that stylo is a wimp and not much much better than pocil at fighting off algae. Actually i'd have to give Pocillopora damicornis the SPS wimpy award for being the most useless SPS coral as far as sticking up for itself in the tank lol - agree or disagree ?

yikes! Sorry to hear of your recent issues! I loved following your very inspiring journal. Hopefully things turn around, as I'm sure they will with a little TLC.

Also curious as to why you switched back to T5s after a great run with the Mitras?

Thanks guys im playing the nursing and waiting game now bringing the tank back to health.

The reason for the light change was, well it was a birthday present for one, but reading on a few forums that LED+T5 is the best lighting combo out so I wanted to test for myself after having every other lighting. If I dont like it I can easily go back and get Mitras again :)

Sorry if I missed this but where did you buy your GHL LED's? I'm having a tough time finding them online. Also I would love your recommendation for which model and how many units I will need - my tank size which is 36x36x20 and 95% SPS. Last question... high have you mounted the lights from water level? Sorry for all the questions but I'm extremely excited about your results with SPS. Thanks Chris

Where you located? If in the USA or Canada and the UK we have multiple dealers just email us at sales@aqua-digital.com to be connected.

just read your whole thread! very nice tank sir. also its helped put my mind a lil at ease as to switching to led. i went from mh to vertex illumina, so far so good. sorry about the alk mishap ive done the same, coral will bounce back.

you have some amazing looking corals, i hope they recover. i read you had an alk swing that is attributed to your sps problems? i also had some sps issues, however no alk swing. i'm curious to see if your sps's improve minus the LEDs? i suspect mine will.

So is that 3 led clusters mixed in with the T5's? How many/bulb combo is that?sorry it's hard to tell from that angle. Do you like the LEDs over the mh? Sorry for all the questions I'm just curious as to what your opinion on lighting is. I have a T5 mh combo and I'm considering adding another T5 and replacing the mh with LEDS.
