New Tank

awesome awesome tank. That really is one of the best setups I've ever seen. I love the room. Great job. I'll be following with interest!

The dialyseas does all the water changes. Right now I have it programed to change 2.5 gal a day. I will increase that when the bioload increases as I add animals and/or the water quality deteriorates measurably.
Oh and thanks for all the compliments everyone :) I really love the setup so far.

Would you mind telling us a little more about the sun room construction. Was it completely custom built, pre-fab/kit, etc? I would love to see some pics of the room from the inside and outside as well if you get a chance.

Also, what is your photoperiod? When do your lights turn on and off? During natural sunlight hours or do you have lights on at night for viewing?

Absolutely stunning display! :eek2: WOW! :eek1:

I agree with several people above. You CAN NOT start a thread like this with a few teaser pics. We need eye candy!

Seriously though, this is a great looking tank. I am envious!

Since the tank has only been up a week, I am still playing with the photoperiod. Starting at about 9am the sun starts lighting the tank directly. I have the metal halides (4 250watt 10K) go on about 11Am and they stay on until 10pm. The actinic T5 come on at 4pm and stay on till 11pm. I will probably change this, but I dont need the slow dawn effect with the lights because it gets the real thing from the sun. When the seasons change I will no doubt make adjustments.
The sun room was made by a company called Sandcastle Group. I think they are nation wide but they have three distributors here in Massachussetts. I will try and get more pics from different angles

Thanks for the info reefkeeper2. The reason I ask is because Im planning an in wall tank with the tank sitting in my sunroom. Its a lot smaller and only has windows on three sides and not in the roof and upper walls like yours'. Im just curious if the natural light followed by the artificial light would be too much light during a 24 hour period. Im glad you get to figure it out first! :D :p

not to hijack or anything, but you don't have to worry about that living in MA or GA! These corals live in lagoons on the equator...a little GA sunlight won't hurt any of em!

Here is a shot of the bubbleking. I had emptied it 4 hours previous

WOW- that really is a great looking tank and a great room to have it in. The only bad thing I can see is that now you have to clean all 4 panels :D. Keep the pics coming and congrats!

reefkeeper2,

Did you ever think of hiding the light fixtures within the metal frames that come down to the tank? It would give a nice visual open effect over the top of the tank. And as others have expressed -- your did a nice job !

That is an awesome tank and room. I would love to have a dedicated room for a tank. May have to consider that for my next house.

The lights can move up into the fixtures that hang from the ceiling since they are on adjustable wires. I left plenty of room because I didn't quite know how high I was going to place those lights. If I moved them up it would look better, but I think the lamps would be too far above the water. I built those fixtures out of PVC and wood and I wish I had made them just a tad lower.
