Waterkeeper when i first found this site I read thru all your material. I was so thankful someone was kind enough to spell it out like that for the people just starting out. Slowly I realized you were no longer active on the site. I am very thankfully that you are back and I will maybe be able to pick your brain when I am starting my tank hopefully in the next month or so. I am glad to see you back even though I didnt have the honor to meet you before. Thanks for all the help you have already provided me with your writeups

ive had my tangs for a bout a week and i cant get them interested in eating any seaweed i bought from the store...i go the omega one green colored seaweed from petsmart and put it on a vegi clip and they wont even go near it...they will eat pellets but i keep reading that they need veggies as well...any suggestions?

Hey Rainwater,

Try some small amounts of store bought items like spinach, kale or (though not as nutricious) leaf lettuse. Seaweed is higher is some nutrients than land based veggies but most flake foods make up for this in their formula. Always wash store bought stuff well as it is exposed to thing that don't bother humans but can harm marine fish.

Hey WK, did you listen to the part where she said that is and always be the best filtration there is? She also sounds like a Babe, and a very smart one.
She was going to mention DSBs but as she started, she got a frogfish in her throat from laughing. :deadhorse:

I don't post much, just search. Tonight, as I was searching I came an older thread in which you had posted. I was like, I remember him! He gave me crap! I mean good answers. Really nice to see you back, you've helped myself and I'm sure alot of other people.

Thanks Rusty,

My Old Drill Sgt. style through some people off but over time people mellowed out (no way, that I ever would ;) ) and actually got some sound (I think) info from my posts.

Hi Paul,

Thanks to generous organ donations made by the DSB dealers association I am once again functional. As I indicated in yesterdays first post I was really upset that there are any Newbies left in reefdom. I figured they would all be trained by now. I suppose a few people haven't caught on by now that reefkeeping is one the best hobbies there is. Not only is it relaxing, providing many hours of pleasure, but it also keeps one pretty much broke so you have no money to spend on other vices.

I do wish to warn our newcomers that Paul B. lives on Long Island in New York, which right there should give you an idea of his marine abilities. He does water changes with Long Island Sound seawater and that means the water will be pretty much ammonia saturated once the beaches open up this summer and the little ones head out into the waves. It is also very likely that Paul himself gets saturated when he, and his crew (buddies) head out in his boat.Cheers!

Anyway just wanted you to know one of the ones handing out Newbie advice in my absence.

Now Paul-about those bodies they have been finding out my you......

:worried:

Your back and that's great. I had a really tough time defending you against Paul in your abscence.

It's good to see your post again.

This sh*t is great. Im about half way through the articles and learning lots that is preventing me from asking pesky questions and directing further research.
Cheers for the articles.

And props to whoever invented the 'sticky' device on forums.

I do hope that "head" transplant works out well for you. :smokin::wavehand:
That last head was stuck on DSBs of all things.

Hello everyone,

Just started my pico nano tank almost four weeks ago. I currently have two pounds of live rocks, red mushroom, some soft corals and two hermit crabs. I look forward on learning a great deal from this forum. Good meeting all of you. JC.

Help! Moving a tank...

Help! Moving a tank...

I need some advice on moving my tank.

I have 29 gal. with a pretty small population. I need to move it across town. I've moved it before, but I think it was probably not well done, and it's miraculous that I didn't loose any fish.

So, I have a 29 gallon with substrate, two fish, and several invertebrates. What is the best way to move it? How can I put the water back in the tank without stirring up the substrate? Or otherwise give it time to settle before putting the livestock back in? What's the best way to transport everything? Before I transported my fish in separate plastic bags in a cooler to maintain the temperature. Is that ok? How long can the fish be in the bags (or other container?) safely? I transport the remaining water in 5 gallon buckets. Is there a better way to do that? Also, I have no coral because I figured would probably be near-impossible to move and so have not purchased any.

I really want to make sure I make this move as easy as possible on my fish, and I really don't want to loose any. Please help.

Also, I have an empty 5 gallon and 10 gallon that I could use for something if need be? Someone suggested maybe moving the fish into those while I get the 29 gal. tank re-set-up, but I don't know if that would be enough space for all of them and I don't know if that would even help or add more stress by making two moves instead of one?

I have a lot of time to put into this if need be but probably very little extra money for additional supplies.
