Newbie Introduction Thread

Hey thanks for sharing guys. I see a lot of new members here, anyone care to make and introduction?

Hi there,

I'm not new here but haven't posted much. I just want to say hi to everyone. I've learned much from this forum and ReefCentral in general over the years. I've had salt tanks before the internet, but I've learned most from here and the Susquehanna Reef Club where I belong. I have a build thread but haven't updated in a while. I have quite a few zoas and paly frags along with some LPS. Most of the frags I have are small now, but growing. Since my wife's and my three kids are now all grown up and moved out, I'm planning on moving my 120 Oceanic Tech tank to my daughter's old bedroom. There, I'll place the tank in-wall facing our family room. I'm also going to remove the sump and plumb over to a 150 or 300 gallon rubbermaid stock tank. That will make a real nice frag tank.
What a great resource this place is.....
Edit: Wow, I just noticed, I finally reached 800 posts after ten years here......

Well I guess I should say hi. I have a 75g build that I have slowly been working on the past few months or so, finally got it up and running last month and finished the cycle off, so it's been about 3-4 weeks since the cycle has completed and I've begun the process of stocking it. Thus far the residents include a smallish CUC consisting of a few turbos, handful of nassarius, dozen or so hermits, two emerald crabs (one of which was a hitchiker) and the various other beneficial inverts that came in with the liverock. Since then a fire cleaner shrimp, a yellowhead jawfish and a foxface have moved in and are settling in nicely!

For corals so far we have a xenia and 5 frags of zoas that I picked up. The only one I've been able to "verify" is a Nuclear Dragon's Eye. The others were one rock that contained half of a rather dull brown polyp and half a kind with a brown skirt and a sort of peach colored center, one small frag with orangish polyps (that seems to be happy in spite of the fact that the turbos have turned its area into a snail highway), one larger frag with some bluish-brown polyps, and the last with are a forest green color. Unfortunately the last one does not seem to be adjusting well and most have closed up and don't look so good :( I've tried moving it around but to no avail. I'm not ready to give up on it yet (particularly since the rest look quite well) but it doesn't look good.

I may swing by the LFS this weekend to see if they've got anything else; I'd like a few more zoas and would love to get a few more colors in there if at all possible :) I think they're fantastic!

ok well ive been on here a few months but just got my larger tank going and tommorow going to get some zoa frags for it. right now i have a 65g with 30g sump/refigium,aqua c skimmer, koralia powerheads ( 1 and 4 new design) and a cheap wallmart brand powerhead. i have 390ish watts in pc lighting (i believe coralife 2-96w, 1 white light 1 actinic blue in both fixtures)currently 30-35lbs LR, 4 blue chromis. its been cycling for about 4 months now. hmm prob forgetting something

i have been lurking around this forum for a while..

my name is belle,
i have only been keeping a saltwater tank since jan of 2010...before satwater i used to breed rainbow fish and african cichlids...i had 14 freshwater tanks at one time :lol2: so to go from 14 to 1 is a big down grade...i just picked up a 39 gallon cube that i am going to be setting up in the near future, still gathering ideas for it....

i started out with an 8 gallon biocube i picked up stocked and cycled off of craigslist...
then upgraded everyone to a 14 gallon biocube about 2 weeks later...

then in feb of 2010 i decided i wanted an even bigger tank, sooo i bought a 50 gallon rimless and 20 high sump off of a fellow reefer on CORA(my local reef club) and so began the addiction! i fell in love with it....also fell in love with zoas :)

the tank specs are:*been cycled since march 2010..only had a 2 day cycle, used all cured rock**
50 gallon rimless
20 high sump(filled only 8 inches,b/c my skimmer)
*euro reef rs-80 skimmer with sedra pump
*fuge with live rock, chaeto, red flame algae, caluerpa profilera, red spotted macro, tons of brittle stars and a trochus snail*
mp10
k2
sedra 500gph return pump
4x39 watt T5HO aquatic life fixture
2x39 watt aquatic life fixture
aquaminder
glass therm.

live stock:
pair of mis bar black and white clowns(keeko-male and luna-female) from a breeder in cali
6 line wrasse-no mean bone in her body-my clowns rule the tank
4 trochus snails
2 black foot trochus
2 blue leg hermits
dozens of cerith
dozens of nass snails
**will be adding a lawnmower blenny, and a YWG in a few weeks or so**

70lbs of live rock(DT and sump)
GSP
shrooms
rics
macros-(red titan,red flame,codium,red spotted,blue ochtodes)
zoas- i am addicted to zoas, i have probably 70 different types and a few thousand polyps in my tank
2 faced chalice frag
**will be picking up a photo gorg for the tank**

i believe that is it...lol

Welcome aboard dbyoho and thanks for sharing that. This is your home to and don't be afraid to share, ask question etc. If everyone lurks, no one will type.

Did you build that sump yourself or off the shelf?

Mucho

Hello belle, wow, impressive, thanks for sharing.

What type of live rock did you get? I'm partial to Figi, it's the only thing I use.

Lurking is ok, but I'm sure you have a lot to share so don't be shy. We really need to hear from you ok?

Again, Welcome.

i didnt buy it off the shelf but another member on here in my town (also my instructor) was debating on selling the whole tank/sump setup and i bought it off him. basically i bought everything but the powerheads, pump, since then hes been helping me out tremendously. he is also who im getting some frags off of. its just a 30g glass tank with some bubble traps and the skimmer and bio wheel filter and pump in the last chamber. i would post up some pics but im a college student and my camera got stolen.

No one else cares to make an introduction? Hmmm, maybe I should have made this a picture thread !!!:wavehand:

Hello

My addition started in the summer of 1999.. with a 2.5 gallon tank of zoas and then over the years i let my hair down and bought a 15 gallon tank. (yes i know rebel)... zoas and palys have made me the poor man i am today..

Right now 15 gallon tank LR and a 12 watt panorama led strip mp10 PH and thats all she wrote..

hello im austin,
i have a been a member of RC for some time now just never really posted anything. i have a 29g that i am slowly turning to a zoa/ric tank as well as a 75g that is still in its early stages but its full of all diff kinds of coral i mainly started the 75 for chalices and nems, but quickly found out that chalices dont like something about the 75 so now ive got a few zoas in there as well.
thats about all i can think of for now

hello everyone my name is sherwin. I have been in this hobby since 4th grade. now im married lol. i will start of by saying 3 years ago i recently had a reef store running for over 6 years.

I had a total of 2500 gal running a freshwater system, saltwater fish and corals. business went well after a year so we expanded more of the saltwater side and got rid of freshwater system. it brought the store out by having a whopping total gal = 3,800 gal.

well economy went down so we had to shut down for now. Got a 225 gal acrylic tank display with
deep sand bed,
175 of mixed man made live rock and pukani/tonga/fiji live rock.
10 T5's HO 60" running the lighting system
KR2 Calcium Reactor
HSA-3000 http://marinetechnical.com/page2.html
being run by a Blueline 100 RLT
1/4 chiller

frag tank
its a zero-edge 8' long tank
4 pcs PFO pendant 250 watt HQI 14K pheonix
4 pcs VHO super actinics
50 gal sump
1 Turboflotor 5000 shorty aqua-medic http://aqua-medic.com/turboflotor_5000_shorty.shtml
3 OR3500 Ocean Runner pumps Aqua-Medic 900 gph
stocking the frag SPS tank.

Now that's what I'm talking about.

Welcome aboard Friday Night, austinh, vinniemabuna.

Hello Sog, first post and it's with us. Don't stop there my friend and it's not even important what there names are. What is important is that you find out what types of corals you have so you can provide optimal care for them. If you have a digital camera, take a pic and then take it to your LFS and they can help you or come back and post it here. Then someone can direct you to the proper forum where you can find out what you need to know. But don't stop there, Google that coral and find out more info as well as doing a search here on RC in the appropriate forum.

5h3rW1N, hey man, welcome, and a forward LFS owner. You have a wealth of knowledge so don't be afraid to share that man, I'm serious. I'm looking forward to hearing from you ok? Wow, nice system and hardware you have, very impressive. I got my eye on you, LOL.

We need to hear more from you guys ok?

I know there are others.

Mucho Reef
