(few acans) I've been around this site for a few months, quietly taking in advice without it being given to me. so far so good. I watch this forum to see all the new eye candy. So thats my intro don't want to ramble too much. lol Hope to talk to you guys in the future. (HOPEFULLY with no problems) Thanks

Hi All!!!

Just wanted to say Hi as i've just started about 4 months ago. I've been crawling around in southern Cali forum mainly on RC for about 2-3 weeks.
Most of my XP is in Freshwater. Going mainly reef tank.

I'll save a lot of space here if you want all the tank details by posting the thread I guess.... http://www.reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1853460&highlight=dan+rhomberg (lots of pics)

Just wanted to say thanks in advance for any welcomes. Glad to be here.

Well after Mucho Reef's PM I decided to stop lurking and post a little;

The name is Stu, originally from England but now in upstate NY and relatively new to marine/reef tanks but not new to keeping things in water.

Over the years I've kept and bed most freshwater tropicals but had always wanted to try my hand at salt water. Took the plunge earlier this year when I was offered a 40g tank that had some livestock but was in generally poor shape due to lack of time for upkeep.

Tank currently has about 90lbs of liverock, 50lbs of sand, HOB refuge with macro-algae, pods, wondermud etc, T5 lighting (4 x 39w), somewhere in the region of 1000gph turnover, pair of Clowns, Lawnmower Blenny, Nassarius and Trochus snails, hermits of multiple types.

I Have a Zoa/Paly thing going, very much into their shape and colour morphs although I have very little interest in buying frags just because they are a new name. I will also admit to a soft spot for softies most especially Anthelia's. Last night we discovered we now also have 3 small ball tip anemone's hiding in the rockwork.

On to what everyone is waiting for, pictures .....

Was just trying to liven things up. I want you guys to feel at home here and to get you guys to start posting away when you're ready is all.

Hi all, just started reading posts in this forum for zoa info. I admit I should have been doing it since starting my first reef tank 2 years ago, but there's been so much to learn about the general aspects of it that I just haven't wanted to stress my old brain that much.
I have 3 tanks going at present, a 34g Red Sea Max, a 20L, and 5g quarantine that has a green clown goby I got in March as not much more than a barely visible baby, he's become the love of my life, so cute. I've been putting together all necessities for a 75g for months, but the process has been delayed by lack of a stand. My son started building one then hurt his back and couldn't finish. Husband took over, and lets just say craftmanship is not his strong suite!!!
I have a few different zoas most are the generic no name , a few of the "designer" ones with the catchy names that allows them to be marketed at much higher $$$. I find that the no-names, most freebies from friends, are thriving, but the designers aren't doing as well. Is it just me or do they require more care?

Welcome to the Zoo. 3 tanks ????, High roller huh LOL?

Sorry to hear about your son's injury. Sounds like hubby did the best he could though.

Interesting observation you made here,

" I find that the no-names, most freebies from friends, are thriving, but the designers aren't doing as well. Is it just me or do they require more care? "

The ones you spoke of have most likely been fragged the most. Excessive and premature fragging will do just that. Excessive and repetitively moving them around, as some will do to try to spark some grow, will only slow, delay, stop or stunt their growth. Like Ron Popel use to say, "just set it, and forget it".

Thanks for sharing.

Hello All
my name is Chris, I've had my tank about 8 years, lost it once to an ice storm 5 years ago. I've only been into zoa's for about the last year, but can't seem to get enough of them now. I love this forum , you guys do a great job, the information I've gotten here has been instrumental to the success of my Zoa's. Thanks

Hello All, My name is Mark and have a 90 gallon FOWLR that is now turning to a reef. I got mostly shrooms and GSP's right now. I got into this Z and P by accident. I bought an awesome neon green shroom rock that has about thirty of these and now I want to expand into a couple more types. Got to have diversity right? haha. Anyone know what kind they are?

Welcome Chris, the guys and gals around here are the best. Jump in and don't hesitate to share.

Hi,
I'm not new to reefing but new to zoa's and paly's. I'm setting up a MINI S 3.5 gal pico. I'm planning on mostly zoa's and paly's with maybe a duncan or tourch coral. I am mostly looking forward to keeping a few sexy shrimp, although I've read of them eating zoa's.

I've been putting equiptment together for a couple years. So far I have;

Tank: ADA MINI S (3.5 gal)
Lighting: 36w Current Dual Satellite fixture
Filtration/Flow: Aquaclear 50 (66 - 200 gph)
Heater: 50w RENA Smartheater

I'm not going to have a sump but I might set-up the Aquaclear as a fuge.

I've been looking at the zoa's and am surprised at how much they cost. I'll post pic's once things get up and running.

Sammy, Z's and P's would be good their but I wouldn't put a Duncan or Torch there as those guys can reach out and sting the polyps. Just keep and Z's and P's and you won't be disappointed. I dunno either with the SS.

Nice! 3.5 nano man.. love nanos myself.. keep bio load small or be up on or water changes.. pics please when you got them..

Thanks for the replies. Yea, it should be sweet. I'll stay away from the LPS and stick with the z's and p's :).

I know thisw may sound swilly but what is the difference between a z and a p? Is it just the size?
