No hunting thread yet?

Most bow hunters are opposed to them during bow season for various reasons. Requires little to no skill to shoot. Farther range. Must be fired to unload (most not all). Those are primary argument points. I think they should be legal during regular gun season, but oppose their use during bow season. So if it comes down to all or nothing, I vote nothing. But since when do the citizens if New York's views count for anything?

I ran archery shops for about 10 years so trust me i dont think archery season is fair but why not gun season I mean crap its the person with the crossbow that is sufferring. i just have a pinched nerve in my shoulder that makes it so I cant pull a bow or shoot a gun so it would be nice to hunt again

I hear you. I've met plenty of guys that can't pull bows anymore from neck & shoulder injuries. I actually wanted to get one for a few tight spots I hunt. I could use one in there during gun season, just for giggles. After opening weekend of shotgun (where I hole up in bow only honey holes) I lose interest. The woods just become unenjoyable for me.

I have similar views to you Cully. I think that the average person shouldn't be able to use them during bow season, but I also believe that the rules should be more relaxed. Currently, you have to be VERY disabled to get the OK to use the crossbow. I think everyone should be able to use them during the open firearm season.

Bowhunters who can't draw can get a modified archer permit fairly easily, with a doctor's signature.

Crossbows were legal this passed season (regular season only) with a "license" that was printed in the syllabus. Just had to be signed by the hunter, and carried in the field.

Gotta get out there early. Heading out again tomorrow. It was a good one. Maybe 115" buck. Nice mass for around here. Here's another view.

I'll be out gallivanting in the woods this weekend when I'm trudging through the 12" of snow making maple syrup. Maybe I'll take the long way around and see if I can find anything.

Beautiful mark. You getting a score on him? I finally got mine done. 134 5/8. Met qualifications for pope & young, northeast big buck club and New York big bucks. He was with a bow right? He should qualify too

Who scored him? I did a rough score, only got 119 7/8". He was a small deer, maybe 165#. I think that makes the rack look huge. What was inside spread on yours?

I had him scored by the guys at northeast big buck club. I'd have to look at my paperwork to tell you the inside spread.

Either way, that is one heck of a deer! I probably said congrats before, but I'll say it again.

Congrats!

This is just pumping me up more to go elk hunting in the fall of 2015. Bought a new scope (Leupold VX-R), base, and rings. I got the rings in the mail the other day and they sent 1" rings instead of 30mm. D'OH! Now I have to return them and wait for them to send the right ones.
