No hunting thread yet?

Dropped a 5 this morning. Watched bucks chasing all morning. Must've seen ten deer this morning. My buddies dad had just shot at this one. Thought he had a bad shot and I would help. Put a solid shot through both lungs. He barely ran then sat down nicely twenty yards in front of me. Dropped him off at my grandfathers at 10 am.

Nice!

I went to a bow only spot this am. Saw the biggest 4 pointer I've ever seen. His mains were outside his ears and he had tall 8-9" G2 (actually G1s), no brows. I even drew down in him expecting him to be a respectable 8. I was like...wait...what??? Would have been a great management buck in a bigger property. Also saw a piebald spike and a red fox.

On my walk in at dark 2 turkey came off their roost, darn near put me into a cardiac vapor lock and full code brown.

That's a great deer Cully,damn congrat's

I only got out once ,but I did manage to take a doe in the first 2 hrs. Hoping to get back out again, will see.

Making some Jerky today, applewood cold smoked ,sorta ,well, definately makeshift. The beer cans are just there to hold the skewers. Not the best, but it works. The other stuff is summer sausage, some with heat ,a few mild with montery pepper jack ,and a couple of Salami.

Nice Graves!

I missed one with the pistol on Saturday evening, then proceeded to hit one with my car less than an hour later. D'OH! Not much damage, and I won't report it to my insurance. I just need to replace the headlamp and take a rubber mallet to the hood.

Nice Steve!

I put a stalk on what I thought was an 8 and closed the distance from 100 yards to 20 and sealed the deal. Ended up being a wide a$$ 6 with no brow tines. I was super stoked to get it done, on the ground, with a bow, during gun season. I will post a pic of the euro mount I make with the rack & skull. My only photos are a little graphic.

Per my wife, my season is over. Heck of a year.

Can now RE-focus on my 120 build......and my family....

Nice , cully . I'm starting to get the itch again. Had a small 8 dance around the dogs today. Huge body. Bow only spot of course. Spot and stalk might be a viable option. Deer density is low, but some nice deer are around. Sitting in a tree isn't my thing. Spot and stalk definitely ups the excitement factor.

Anyone else getting the gobbler itch?

Sat out in a 3 ft snow drift today checking patterns on my new 12.

The Wife is pretty sure I'm insane.

Just got in the truck after a stroll around. Hope for a shed antler, but mostly looking for travel routes. Not a single cut track on the 100 acres. They must be "wintering" elsewhere.

I was out tapping maple trees today, and noticed some nice deer trails. No sign of any gobblers though. Hopefully, I'll actually get out this year. I've been saying that I'm going to go out for the past few years, just haven't had a chance yet.

I'm saving up my pennies and vacation days for a 2015 Colorado elk hunt.

I'd love to go hunt elk one of these days. Uncle has a good place out in New Mexico, I've just got to make some time.

Mmm elk. Reminds me to start putting in for preference points. Colorado has a great program. 10k hunts for $ 3 bucks a point ? Let mine expire like a idiot. So much public land if your willing to hump you're own camp. My wall tent is itching to go back west. It's been relegated to domestic camping trips with fandamily . Got lucky last year w Turkey . Down to one one kinda sorta spot. F this snow. Woodcock should be returning. Dogs are stir crazy.

Colorado, Unit 65, plenty of public land, 100% draw rate for either sex (last few years), and a decent success rate. I'm all there come October 2015.
