I would think the incoming board would also have some ideas of their own to communicate to the club or at least have ideas as to where they would want to take it.

Why would you want to be <name your possible position> and what is your understanding of what the duties are?

What are your ideas of how you could improve the club by being appointed <name possible position>?

What skills do you bring to the table?

Etc.

At the next meeting all nominated individuals should give some sort of speech or something, otherwise how can we make an informed decision, otherwise, it's a popularity contest.

Agreed Zach. I am happy to answer those questions at a quorum at the meeting if folks so desire it. I have already answered some above. Nothing too formal though..we are a fish club but still a club that is driven by it's members, nonetheless.

Exactly. Hell, I would be up for discussion over wings and beer. We need to get together to talk about PowerShell and other tech stuff anyhow. :beer:

I would like to nominate Rick (Mixer 911) For President or Vp If he Is Interested In the positions. As he has a great deal of knowledge about the hobby to bring to the table, Plus his Dad has every tool made! LOL:frog:
We need to have a selection of people running for each position, As long as they are qualified for the post. Just my 2 cents

Thanks Bill! I will think about the nomination and let everyone know. As for my background, I was a Founding Member (as in there was 4 of us when it started) and secretary for a year and VP for a year of PBMAS (Palm beach Marine Aquarium Society) We grew to over 400 members within 3 yrs. Club is still going strong for the past 6 yrs. I have been Reefing for over 10 yrs. FO for about 18yrs.

I am going snowboard for 10 days so reefing is off the brain for now :lol:

I'm so jealous. Didn't you just get back. Utah's Wasatch Mountain Range is my fav. Next would be the Canyons in park city as my 2nd. Have fun I know you will. Wish I can go. Be going to Virginias next month to do some boarding.

Yea i was actually in Salt Lake City last week. I rode Park City, Snowbird, Solitude and Powder mountain. I love the Wasatch Range. A lot of different places to hit and so close. I am in Sacramento now and meeting up with a snowboarding club tomorrow and we are going to Kirkwood and the Tahoe area for 8 days. Should be a blast. We will have to go ride together sometime!

Well we have some nominations but we may want some more also if we want to vote on and vote in the other 3 positions of the BOD then we should nominate them also.

These are the other 3 positions in case anyone forgot what they were:


Event Cord. Coordinate events to include the swap and trips.

IT Cord. Coordinate the impl. of the web site and growth of it. Evaluate and recommend to the BOD of the best IT solutions for the club. Assist in keeping web site up to date. This is a large job so it would have others that would help.

PR Dir. and could work with the event cord and help with the LFS and public.

I could also be beverage coordinator & weather forcaster.

Wayne, th eby-laws provide for this and they do spell out how changes are made. The board cannot just decide to have positions. It's a formality, but nonethelss needs to be first order of business if we are going to do it right

Mike, it is what it is...this is not asking for "too much" seriousness..it ensures everyone has a right and a weay to cast a ballot for if we even want these positions. The by laws are very easy, and not too serious at all..but we ARE still a club.....shouldn't jsut ignore the by laws. We can vote on msot things and make many decisions very informally....officer positions is one thing that cannot be. Our NPO status and legality do bind us to certain things.

I dont think (I may need to go back and look at this thread) I have seem 1 single person state that they DONT think it's a good idea to create the 3 new positions as they all make sense and we even have people wanting to be nominated for one of the new positions.

I think voting on whether we should make the 3 new positions is a waste of time since we all pretty much agree that only good can come of that.

On the other hand voting on who will be in said position is a must.

I for one did not think it a good voted position, but appointed. Regardless of right or wrong (opinions vary), the rules for changing the by laws exhist to allow ALL members who wish to comment at the vote and vote their preference.

This forum is NOT a defacto communication for the club, especially for voting. there are members who are banned from here, or through choice refuse to be members here.

It's a fairness thing Mike. I udnerstand your feeling, however we have by-laws to ensure certain thigns are done fairly and without bias from anyone, including officers.
