Nudibranch Eating Wrasses

Great thread. Needs to be "stuck".

What a coincedence, I was just thinking about PM'ing a couple people on wrasses for zoa tanks.....

I will be housing a couple when the new tank gets done this fall.

Looks like the yellow coris wrass is a winner so far. Still contemplating on the others.

I have seen the fairy wrasses brought up but never seen a direct answer/experiance on them. Any opinions/experiances??

They'll hunt, but not as active as the yellow coris or lined wrasses. Some will eat red planaria lke the 6line but thats by individual not always a guarantee.

^nudis or wrasses???

Nudis will, hence the topic of nudi eating wrasses....They will not only breed, but could feed apon your zoas! (depending on the type of nudi you have in your tank)

That sucks, I'm planning to remove my 6 line because he killed one of my picasso clowns. Maybe the 6 line is the reason I've had success with zoas all over my tank. Also, all I have are fairy wrasses and a mccosker so maybe they're doing the job too.

yes they'll hunt a bit, I've had them mixed in with my other wrasses before, a read fairy, Mccosckers etc...

i love my yellow coris and leopard wrasse!
my leopard did not eat zoa nudis. i had an outbreak and he didnt touch em. added the yellow coris and bam!
they both pick all day and are both beautiful and beneficial.
really like this thread as well.

It's a hit or miss with leopards at times but a pretty much guarantee with yellow coris. Ultimate reef work horse IMO.

wrasses silly of course the nudi will bread in the aquarium

I have a green coris that has done great, hunts incessantly. I liked it being a little different than the yellow coris, and I've not had any trouble with it at all.

Something has eaten the legs off my brittle star, and he's a prime suspect, but I never actually saw him do it.

I found one monti eating nudi on my monti frag, pulled it picked it off, then freshwater dipped them a bit too long, ended up killing the frag but I haven't yet seen another nudi on my montis. Want to get a wrasse though

How big is he? Is he at the rock turning size/age ?

I bought him in Oct 2007. It's one of the bigger fish in my tank now (pretty thick). Sometimes he'll grab an empty snail shell and shake it, or turn one over that's on the bottom.

I have a lot of hermits, and he doesn't bother them. When he turns over the shells, he seems to be looking for pods. I do have a LOT of pods. My system is a 135g with a 100g rubbermaid sump, plus a 20g refugium + a 30g frag tank. The sump/fuge/frag tank produce a ton of pods, and he eats them all day (along with the little solon fairy wrasse).

I had a sixline in my tank and while he hunted for food all day he didnt have a taste for flatworms and my tank got infested. When I bought a coris wrasse to try to fix it he almost bullied him to death and I had to move the coris wrasse. Seems like a few other people have had similar issues with 6 lines not being interested in flatworms, so I wouldn't recommend one for a first line defense of flatworms.

I loved my yellow coris, he did a great job keeping everything in check. The only downside was when he reached around 3" he started hunting my crabs, snails and shrimps.... other that that he was a good guy.

Im having the same problem with me Mystery wrasse. He started to hunt the inverts in my tank. I come home to empty shells and hollow crab skeletons.
