Ocean Pro Aquatics LR

The price of all live rock has seasonal Fluctuations, it has to do with peak demand season. It's true of every other wholesaler who carries Walt Smith rock. I'm sure the doubling of gas prices hasn't helped as well, this stuff is heavy and expensive to move around

As linked earlier (http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=573306) I have been into OP few times and bought 180lbs on Thursday when a a very large shipment came in. I seen around 50-100 of these 50lb boxes. These guys are for real. When i first stopped buy there the rock was 1.99 lb and i found them on ebay with that price. It has been slowly going up. I paid 112.00 per 50lbs of rock. They cut open the fresh boxes and let me look and see if i wanted that box then they weight it and added extra to make sure i got at least 50lbs. Which they always gave me 2-5 lbs over to make sure i didn't get shorted. The pukani they only had 88lb boxes so they cut it open and i picked out my 30lbs and they re boxed it. Great guys will vouch for them.

Oh? So I got the "left-overs" and THATS why my box was a tad shy of 50 lb...

Just joking!

Thats nice to know that the rock was so fresh, because thats the 'lot' that I got. Like I said earlier, by 5 pm CA time on Friday, I was already curing it.

Did you really see much difference from box to box? You showed enough pics to suggest to me that, while it would definately be nice to have been there to pick it over, there probably wasn't all that much difference.

BUT...I PAID for 50 lbs! I have no idea if I got 50 lb, more than/less than 50 lb...do you know (being there yourself) how they handled boxes that were LESS than 50 lb since that is what I paid for? I'm sure they didn't adjust the price...did they "bring it up to" 50 lb? Of course, over 50 lb would be fine!

live rock weight is subjective, one case might dry out faster than the others and go from being fat to being a little under. To get a feel for the true shipped weight of the rock submerge it for an hour or two and then drain it and weight it. Once it's been rehydrated most cases will be over.

No one really cherry picks because I've never heard of someone turning away a case once it's opened. The first visit I had, they offered to open multiple cases but the first three I got were perfect so I took them

I just got my shipment yesterday from OceanPro. It's nicer than I expected it to be. I got 60lbs. Kaelini and 60lbs. MI. The colors and shapes were phenomenal!
Had it shipped via Southwest airlines CA to NY. Shipping cost $51. I thought there was a mixup when I looked at the airbill. I called and spoke to Mike. He went out of his way to get in touch with the guy who shipped it out and called me twice to make sure everything was okay. There was no mistake after all....but it sure is nice to know OceanPro will be there for you if something goes wrong.
I certainly will be recommending OceanPro to everyone not getting Florida rock.:)

Mike and OP are the best!
Shipping to Albany NY was only $53 for 80lb.

How can anyone choose local rock at over $8/lb when you can get the best rock at under $4/lb (shipping included)....just crazy! If bulk (50ish lb) is just too much, find a few friends or club members to split it!

btw...I love my rock :D

My Kaelini & MI came to $4.86/lb. when I included the airline shipping and drop off fee of $20 per box. There's no way I can even get figi for that price....never mind Marshal Island. So you guys who live nearby are lucky....you save that airport drop-off fee!
I see right now that they also got a few new type rocks in. Mike said they have over 30 varieties of rock.
They'll also give you $10 off if you spend $100. You just need to enter the secret promotion code "WELCOME10" in the Promo Code section when you check out and it will automatically be deducted for you.

Here's a video that's very interesting to see.

I just put the rock in last night, and the water was cloudy, but you can see from the picture just how nice it is:

i know this is a old thread but i wanted to vent.
my rock looked nothing like their pictures. or any of yours. i would have been happy with one piece that represented their pix. i ordered the rock before the fourth. they sent ups just before the three day weekend it took a week to receive. the rock was bone dry. they blamed it on my choice of shipping 2-3 days when there add supported my shipping choice quote from their web site. "Although the majority of our customers ship via UPS Ground (UPS Standard for international customers) just excepting the fact there will be less color or life and more recurring required (not a huge issue, especially when setting up a brand new tank), next day or over night air cargo shipping is the only method we recommend. "after more than 2 months the rock doesn't look any better. their customer service doesn't exist. they wont return emails or phone calls. they have offered nothing to resolve the issue. no exaggeration. not one piece had life or color. the rock sucked.

From my experience LR does not lose color when it's in the box. I've had times where I took half the rock and cured it in tank and half was sitting in the box. The rocks in the box probably had a lot of die off but all the color remained. The rocks that were curing had lots of bleaching.

I was able to get some ok rock, but I picked it out in person.

I don't know if I'd want them to pick out rock for me and ship it. Who knows how old it could be.

Their customer service isn't the best. And I'm positive they gave me dead sand when I paid for live sand. And the sand was gray, not white like they advertised.

I may or may not go back to them in the future. If you go at the right time they can have some fresh rock. The prices weren't that great if I remember correctly.

My 2 cents
