Tank will be for LPS, softies and pipefish, possibly SH's

70Gal Oceanic Tech Tank, Stand, Canopy: $280-Kenny@ Petmart
16gal Perfecto Sump/Refugium: $30 DIY
Tunze DOC Skimmer: $60-used bin @CF in Roch
HOB CPR Refugium w/Light:$50-used, sedorusc on URS
4x39wTek Fixture w/Geismann Bulbs:$300-group order thru Tim@ABC Reefs
Panworld/Blueline 50px-x: $60-used off of RC forum-like new
Plumbing:~$50-checkswing, ballvalves, unions, Bulkheads, Lockline, tubing, C-clamps, etc...
Corallife Timer:$30

Things I had:
LR cured-need more, getting from Tim@ABC Reefs. He has some of the craziest looking Tonga-Fusion LR curing and dirt cheap. See Dr Bronx Zoo Tank Build on STRS, last few pages.
Powerheads-may not use any
Heaters
Thermometer
Excess plumbing-PVC, Bulkheads, etc

Not a bad Tally when considering the quality of the equipment. If I had gone new with everything I imagine it'd cost at least 2x as much. I'd hate to think of the $$$ I've blown learning this lesson.

Pics to follow. Like it to be a build thread.

Got a little fine tuning on things before it's completely plumbed and ready for FW test. Hoping for this week. Big wedding this weekend in Geneva. Don't see much getting accomplished in the next 72 hrs  :celeb1: :celeb3:  :love2: :crazy1:  :wildone:

Now THAT's what I'm talking 'bout!

Gheez. Posting a build thread with no pics....

Come on, Cully! You ought to know better!

In any case, this looks like it's going to be awesome!

I keep reading more and more how folks are successfully keeping certain species of pipes in reef tanks.

Niiiiizzze!

This is gonna be low flow. The inspiration for it is Mark Kliers crazy 90gal SH/pipe tank. 74 deg temp. Low turnover. Nutrient rich(er). Like to get some colorful Acans, LPS, and softies in there. Got a big green nepthia waiting for me and have some leads on Photosynthetic gorgs and a photosynthetic fan.

I'm going to stay open minded and deviate from my love for SPS for the love of my wife who really wants this biotope.

Sump: 16 gal perfecto. Drilled it for 1" BH. Put in acrylic baffles, still drying. Because it's so small, the right hand side will be both return AND refugium. I have made a wall out of Gutter Guard to go in the middle of that compartment to keep macro from hitting return pump. BUT this will give me a larger return area allowing for a little more lee-way on top off. Until ATO can be arranged.

Return: Blueline 50px-x , 1110gph, max head 13ft, 90watts

CPR HOB fuge:

Will have 2 fuges for max pod production for the pipefish. Love for them to take frozen, but I've got em covered x2!

Had to cut top of Tech's plastic rim to accomodate return from HOB fuge. Scratches on top are ONLY forseeable damage. Saved me a couple of Hunge! Never see it w/ Canopy.

Is it hard to attach acrylic to glass as you did in your sump? I was thinking about building my own DIY sump and would like to buy a cheap pre fab glass tank and make baffles out of acrylic.

what kind of glue/silicone/epoxy did you use?

all-glass aquarium silicone. I just get it close and silicone them in. They won't undergo that much force so it holds just fine. I get the bottle that goes in a caulk gun. Lay down a bead then smooth it with my finger.
