Does anyone know if a 40 breeder (36" x 18") will fit into the tech stand for a 120g? Also, what is the height clearance for a skimmer?

Thank you.

About 29 inches (height). I have an H&S A-150 F2001 skimmer in there and there's plenty of height to spare. This skimmer is 26 inches tall.

It should. The tank is 24.5" wide.

I have a 70 gallon Tech with a ADHI model 30 fuge in the stand. It just fits. I had to remove the panel to put it in.

Thanks guys. Anyone else know for sure if a 18" wide tank will fit in the 120 stand?

The side opening on the 120 Tech stand is exactly 18.25 inches wide (if you take the side glass door off). The exact inside height is 30.50 inches high

I just ordered some shelf rock from Marcorocks that I intend to put down first, then add the sand, and then add the rest of the rock. Actually, since the rock will be dry I plan on building up some of the aquascape outside the tank and then drill some of the pieces to insert pvc for added stability.

Got my old tank moved out, 70g is in place, Fiji shelf rock arriving saturday, water filter system all plumbed in....can't wait. Just have to sort the overflow plumbing out now.

dsn112, how loud would you say your Vortech is? My tank's in the family room now, so noise needs to be kept low.
Anyone try the standard durso overflow kit and know how loud it is? Should I be expecting to do one of the silent overflow mods?

need exact dimensions

need exact dimensions

I've ordered a Tech 120 and I am going to build a custom stand for it, but because I won't get the tank until next week I also won't get the exact measurements until next week. I would really like to start work on the stand this weekend but cannot until I get those measurements. Oceanic lists those as L 48.5 x W 24.5 x H 25 how does that compare to some of you who actually own the tank?

Thanks in advance.

Are you saying that you're going to put shelf rock on the glass bottom then sand over the top of it? What would the benefit of that be?

They only thing I can think of is that if I put the rock ontop of the sand it wont be as sturdy, maybe Im being rediculous. It would be much easier to put the sand in now and the rock ontop of it.

I have a dusting of large grained sand in my tank. Just enough for the sides and back. The whole front of the tank is just glass with rock on it. It's fine...

Yes, but not covering the whole bottom, just where I plan on building the rock higher and I won't cover the rock with sand I'll just have it coming up the sides. The advantage I'm hoping for is to not ever have to worry about anything digging under the rock to the point of something toppling over. I just feel better having the roch touching the bottom rather than resting on top of the sand.

My Vortech is silent, pretty much most of my system is, I cut my standpipe a little too short, so it makes a little noise entering the overflow, but its not bad at all.

I read the Vortech's make quite a bit of noise, which put me off getting one. Might have to check one out in person.
Didn't you get a different durso from the standard in the end?

Yea MD, i got a custom made one that is like that gurgle buster, problem is they were a little too tall for the setup so I cut it and wound up cutting it about an inch too short. Some people complain about Vortech noise, but who knows what noise is to some people. Mine is very quiet. My house is all open and I can't hear it unless I am next to it.

Anyone Using a floating magnet cleaner?? I threw in a magfloat and it wasn't powerfull enough to stay connected, or clean anything for that matter. Looks like the algae free at $70 will work on the 1/2" glass. Anything else anyone using?

What's up with you guys changing the standard Oceanic Durso? Mine does the trick and is silent too boot.

dsn- I use a MagFloat. They have always worked for the every other day wipe. For the big clean jobs I use Kent's Scraper...
