Well after rereading the "offending" post again, this time with rose colored glasses... I can see there might have been a misunderstanding of the intended topic. I too would want to know if the commitment of time required to become a board member would be worth it before jumping in.
The problem is your experiance during your time as a board member will be what you make of it. If you come into it thinking it may be a drain on your life, IT WILL BE. If you come into it with the energy and entusiasm that you are going to make a differance and understand that it will be a rewarding experiance, IT WILL BE.
So, if you have the mind set of example number 2 I am more than willing to support you and will personally nominate you and offer any support I can. If not, please sit out this year and let the job go to someone that is "ready".
