Official Board of Directors Nominations

Sorry, the word die was a little stronger than I had intended. If nothing else, its at least got you all talking more.

I do think, you should all consider the idea of making this club a bit more streamlined. Having the GIRS meet on a regular schedule would be a good start. The other clubs would have to form on their own, it would all depend on the local interest level.

I would prefer that someone else take over as treasurer next year. I love the club and intend to participate as a member, but I would like to take a year off from official duties.

As far as I see it, the club is a way to loosely bind some people with a common interest. All of the local people who have helped me with my tank are club members, and I met almost all of them through the club. GIRS is also the only way most of us have to hear prominent speakers in the reefing community. We get the chance to ask questions to the experts face to face. We even get to go behind the scenes at public aquariums. All that for next to nothing.

Each year we just need a few people to step up and help run the basic club functions. So, who wants treasurer?

Brad

I would be more than happy to help the club in any way possible. I'd like to be more involved with the club. When I thought I was leaving the state I knew I was going to miss it.

I don't mind running again, it would be nice to have some good support to start off the year right this time.

This club cannot die. Alot of us have put alot of sweat into it. Bob moving away really was a kick in the butt. There are alot of good people left around here. Alot of speakers to bring in and alot of places to tour. Heck the club should have plenty of money left to do all these things.

Anyone complaining about their area not doing anything needs to take the reins and recruit people. Get people interested in your areas. Make local stores put up fliers. Take pride in the club and what it is and can be. This is a great group of people that can extend out sooo much further.

One problem is that people are looking for the board to do it all. The board is volunteer and needs help/input from all memebers. If there is an area that is slipping then the dedicated members in that area really need to help out. The board is a small group of people that really do rely on the members to help grow the club.

Ok I am done ranting :)

I will volunteer to help ..... I don't know if it is a good idea to volunteer for a full board position with my current responsibilities. I can help organize events and other things whatever they may be, especially in the Des Moines area. If a board position is needed I would consider the time commitment.

I am not sure what happened above I actually posted that comment Earlier today.

But anyway, Brad said he wanted to take a year off. Ryan Holl said he is interested in getting more involved. I nominate Ryan Holl for Treasurer. I also volunteer to be his second as vice-treasurer to help out. That is unless their is another position open that someone would want to nominate me for. It sounds like Jason is accepting the nomination to continue as president. I am hoping Jeremy will continue as Vice President or Secretary whichever he is.

Jason or someone, would you post what positions we should be nominating for and who currently holds these? I think it is Pres, Vice Pres, Treasurer and secretary but I am not sure.

Thanks JJ. I am just very thankful for the help this club has given me not to mention the new friends.

Craig has also stepped up and said he would take whatever position. So I think are getting things covered. We just need to know what needs to be covered so we can nominate the rest of the positions and then vote whenever voting is??

Seems like we are on a good roll here, lets keep it going.

Oh and JJ, we need to talk about some Bonsai ........

Well then ....

I will add a nomination of Craig for VP.

Then I will self nominate as the resident flunky. One who helps with anything needed. What about the recruitment officer? Maybe Craig would rather take that.

I can do VP if elected if Jeremy would win President again. I dont know alot about club business, but am willing to learn. I can always work on recruitment as it sounds like we may have some good support to help.

(I really wanted to be the flunky as I am about as flunky as tey get)

Well my wife says not to run again this year so I am going to. Here's something to think about. I had a huge problem doing memberships last year. It seemed kinda messed up the way we did it. Basically, I would handle all of the memberships and them i would have to send the money to the treasurer. I propose to make things easier, we just have a President, VP, and secretary. So basically the secretary would play the role of treasurer too. If not then i suggest the treasurer be responsible for memberships.

I would be willing to do both jobs if needed. I would really like to get all the memberships on the web page up to date and make an official registry of all members with contact info so we can have newsletters and what not.

What do you guys think?

Here Here!

In organizations I have been involved with in the past the treasurer collected dues. Secretary sent out news letters & made sure all members knew what was going on. Also the treasurer usually made a quarterly financial statement & sent it to all members.

I am glad you listen to your wife like I do.
