What are they eating?
Mine is eating frozen mysis, LRS Fish Frenzy and LRS Reef Frenzy and it's starting to eat New Life Spectrum Pellets. The photos above are of the same fish.
What are they eating?
Question for those that own these - how are they with cleaner shrimp? Similar to all Anthias in that they may or may not eat them?
Thanks in advance!
At first (as I'm sure you've researched) ; they are very shy. I feed small portions 2-3 times a day to make sure there is enough food available and surrounding them when they decide to eat. I will feed 2-3 times a day when they do start eating for approx. 2 week period. Afterwards, I "wean" them off the 2-3x a day regimental schedule eventually working my way down to once a day. As a treat; I will feed additionally when I feel like it.
Slief, that is awesome. Thanks for sharing!
Very neat and clever idea!
Hello guys! I picked up a borbonius anthias 3 nights ago and I'm loving it already! I have her in my QT but I had a question. The first night she didnt eat (expected) but on the second day she fed aggressively on thawed cyclops. The next day though, she isn't eating as aggressively. She would swim up very fast at whatever food she saw, then would just follow it with her head till it was swept up. I've tried frozen cyclops, R.O.E., frozen mysis, Rod's foods original as well as pacific plankton, and reef caviar. She would do this with all the food, and every once in awhile suck up a piece (usually either of the Rod's food). It wouldn't bother me since shes still eating but the fact that she ate so well the day before worries me. Maybe she was just that hungry so she ate everything the first time?
Also another thing, she brushes up against a piece of PVC with the side of her cheek a couple of times a day (2-3). She does it so fast, just goes up right next to it, whips forward to graze and whips back to the original position to do it again 2-3 times, and its only on that one PVC and sometimes the glass. No spots/dots on her body so far, could it be flukes? Should I treat with prazi now preemptively or wait it out? She did have white stringy poop during her first feeding, haven't seen it since and I've been feeding food soaked in a variety of multivitamins, amino acids, as well as Focus and Metronidazole.
Personality/behavior is awesome, usually hiding in her spot between the PVC and rock unless I stand in front of the tank. Once she sees im in front she comes out into the open and waits looking up at the surface of the water.
One more thing, anybody have any experience with having a borbonius and a ventralis together? A local store has a male ventralis for a good price and I've always wanted one, funny how two fish I wanted for the longest time but couldn't find appear at the same time
Thank you both.. It's working out really well. The fish love it and the Borb always seems to be the first to eat from it. He's really benefitting as a result and has fattened up quite a bit. I'm really pleased with his progress and his lack of intimidation from his tank mates.
Here are a couple pics from yesterday. He's got a serious belly and has grown a lot since I got him a month ago.

What's the max size this gets? 4.5"
Looking at the PJ, it seems like it's bigger than that
He's smaller than the PJ. At least for now. My PJ's are pretty large but the PJ you see in the picture above was several inches behind the Borb. They do get about 4" from what I understand. He's about 1.75" now but he's grown close to 1/2" in the 2.5 months I've had it. He's an absolute pig and eats a few times a day. He's eating pellets too which surprised me. Given that, he eats at least 3 times a day now. Frozen Mysis at noon, pellets at 1PM and LRS + Mysis around 5 or 6 when I hand feed. It's gotten so fat that it looks pregnant.
Thanks for the info.
Does anybody know if we can sex them easily or if they actually change sex depending on the hierarchy?
