Was just up with a sick kid and decided to take a look at CNN's website and there was the story. They're saying he was stabbed in the chest by a stingray's barb. ouch! :eek2:

i just got up and turned it on. 44 years old. im sad, he taught so much to so many in a short period of time. he and wife Terry just had a little girl a couple years back. gonna miss him much.

Also, just noted that over in the Lounge there is a very long thread going about this and talking about making donations and such, if anyone here wonders what might be going on with relation to RC's possible involvement with Steve or his family, or if anyone is inclined to get involved.

yes, i feel real bad for his family. he was a cool guy.
but the truth is they don't need donations.

I think some folks were thinking more along the lines of some wildlife funds/groups he was associated with, perhaps even the zoo. Again, for folks who felt compelled to give something in his memory or to help causes that he supported. I doubt his family will be wanting for money, and they would probably want donations to go to specific charities in his name.

He is a multi-millionaire but it is not liquid money....it's tied up in real estate that I doubt Teri will ever sell. He has reinvested most of his money into the Australia zoo and he has purchased tons of endangered land to protect the animals that live there.

Yeah, and now the question for her is, what do I do now? I mean, so much of what they had was all geared around Steve and his high intensity personality. Terri has been brought into the fold on alot of shows, as have his children. His daughter was just starting up some sort of kids nature show. Does she press forward with his causes? Or does she just fall off the radar? I mean, there is so much fallout from this. His shows, the zoo, the lands he has, all the various efforts he was a part of. As you can see from some of the pictures shown on the news sites, his face is all over that zoo. He is a major draw. I can't see her trying to fill his shoes with all of that. I'm sure they'll all be fine, just a heck of alot more decisions for her to have to make. Hopefully, given his line of work, they discussed together what each would like to have happen in an event like this.

And thinking along those lines, how does a person get life insurance when they have a really risky job like his? Can they get it at all? Would it be something written into a contract for whatever company was maybe doing the filming? Just had me wondering if he even had any kind of life insurance...don't know how they do things in australia.

I think its like driving...where no matter how bad you are you can still get it, it would just be hugely expensive

IM sure its the same kind of thing for skydivers and rock climbers and extreme motorcycle drivers and nascar drivers, etc

One of my close friends from back home actually worked with steve for some time while he was living there. Crazy hearing him talk about it because he was just a peppy guy they would get drinks with. Always working around the zoo when they weren't filming.
