I have a fairly stringent coral QT routine. I get Interceptor from an LFS that has a line on it.
I use TMPCC, Lugol's, Interceptor, and FW dips for zoanthids. With SPS, I inspect with a magnifying glass, dip in TMPCC, and QT. Then I inspect again. If I find any red bugs, then I go to the Interceptor. I will QT a coral for a month to make sure I am satisfied that it is pest free.
Something suggested by Tom (Sparkss) is to cut off the base and re-glue to a new plug, rubble, etc. His idea is that a lot of pests come in on rock and plugs, so eliminating that from the get-go helps out a lot. I think that is smart.
With the above coral, I snipped of the base and glued it to a plastic plug that fits into egg crate. These are inert and keep the frag in place. With what you have gone through Hop, I would really recommend some good research on QT. You can always talk with other reefers to find out what they are doing, but it ultimately comes down to how much risk you are willing to take. After your vermetid experience, I would think you would be extremely strict with QT.
