one month after the upgrade to an 850gal reef

Thanks for the encouraging words everyone... A few answers to the questions out there....

Lights...an even mix of 400watt 10K ushios and 20K radiums..6 of each plus 6 vho actinics.

Xenia... It is very easy for SPS tanks to become very static looking. It is for this reason that I try to keep a few things that have some motion to them..xenia, aneomes, and gonioporas are all kept in my system to give some motion to the tank. I do, however, keep the xenia on an easily removable rock that can be taken out and the xenia thinned a bit and then replaced.

Fulltank pic.. I don't have one handy,; maybe I'll shoot one tomorrow. I will say that it is the depth of this tank that makes it so unique and the depth is lost when I have to pull back so far to get everything in. The pics are much more representative of the system when 1/3 -1/2 tank photos are taken.

Dimensions... the viewing panel of the old and new tank is the same... 72 X 30. It is the depth that has increased to 90inches.

HOLY CRAP...that is even more amazing than the 500gal...and that thing ROCKED!!! can you get pics of the back..i remember the garage pics from last time what about this time...for all the equipment freaks like me :D

slobber....slobber....drool.....drool....
Thats amazing, more so when you consider that I was completely awed by your 500 gallon. I'm in the process of setting up a 58 gallon and thats a prety big undertaking for me. Cant imagine going that big!!!
Looks great man,
Nick

The tank is looking great Steve!! Haven't seen you around for a while. Good to see that most everything made the transition, I didn't see the red carpet though, what happened?

Steve, great tank! I too am fond of deep tanks, or should I say, tanks with depth. Can you give some water parameters, etc.?
Thanks,
Mark

Dang bro, it looks great!!!

Thanksgiving/X-mas season is rolling around soon, will you be coming by this way again? Shoot me a PM if so....

What about a shot of the entire tank from the front. I feel the need to drool over your creation.

Mike

BTW...love the canyon in the aquascape

The first time I saw pics of the old 500 your reef has been one of my motivations to develope a larger system...and now you have improved what was in my mind the perfect reef!

I'm not only motivated to develope a large reef for myself...I'm also motivated to take a trip to the great Northwest just in the hope of seeing that beast in person!!!!

Very nice as always! So how do you like the new deep look? Is it frustrating not seeing a fish for a week? Does this look make a big difference to your 500g setup? Any regrets? Just curious as you're one of the first to try this new setup.

Thanks everyone... now, to answer a few of those comments out there.

Kyle... I lost both my longtime carpets the week before I made the switch. I attribute their demise to the fumes/dust that I unavoidably created during the construction in getting ready for the new tank. I found a blue and purple carpet replacement last week...they are both doing great.

Ali... I will be coming down the Mon- Fri of Thanksgiving. I'll shoot you a PM. I think you're in the Buena Park area. I would love to stop by one evening.

Water parameters.... Alk 12dkh...pH... 8.2 -8.4.... temp ...78 calcium...440 ...NO3 ...undetectable

Invincible... I really like the deep look. It is unique to have more depth than width in an aquarium. The aquascaping has been more difficult than I anticipated. It's hard to not block things in the back and eliminate the depth perception. As I aquascaped, I also tried to taper the rockwork... getting more narrow as you get further back... to force the perpective of even more depth. The other thing that I noticed is that it is hard to fully do justice in photos. I have several channels/overhangs/ledges that just don't show up well in photos. The futher I pull back, the more details that make the aquascaping unique get lost. I will say this though, the motion of the fish seems so much more natural now that they have freedom of roaming in all directions. It's kind of fun watching a fish in the back swimming at you down that long channel.

After picking myself up off the floor from seeing your tank, I just looked at the pictures.

I am setting a new tank for my office and would love to pick your brain if you are open to it.

I love the valley you have created, it is so natural looking and is that a deep blue acro that I saw?

Simply a gorgeous tank.
