One of my saddest days in reefing

Terribly sorry to hear about this Hugo. I sympathize with your situation. I had a tank crash (on Father's Day of all days) a couple years back. I filled an entire 33 gallon trash can with Acro skeletons.

Hearing your beautiful tank crashed just tears at my heart. I hope you can rebuild the tank to its former glory.

that is gone... aw man..

i wish you had posed that your power was out.. i have a stable system and would have housed your corals for you for a few days... this invitation go out to everyone.. we all face total losses with blackouts, if someone has lost power for more than 24 post about it here and hopefully those people who still have power and established (sps) tanks can step up and save the corals.

i dont know if you can sue but good luck with everything..

I was watching the news last night and some area lost power for a while. The news said that you can file a claim with SCE. Give them a call and see what they can do but I doubt you would get much out of them without a layer. Make sure you let them know that it wasn’t just a hobby but that it was also a source of income since you do sell some high-end frags out of it on a regular basis. Anyway, if you need any help getting the tank backup us Socal reefers would be more the happy to lend a hand.

To everyone else, make sure your prep for something like this. Just yesterday I loaded up on large 2 packs of D batteries to run my battery air pump and I think it may be wised for me to look for a small generator.

I survived 22 hours this winter with a Luft air pump and my heater running off a small generator. My backup battery had been fried.

In another part of the year, I wouldn't have needed the heater. When I came home, the power had been out for 5 hours and the fish were lying on the bottom of the tank gasping (except the clowns.) Battery backup air pumps were pretty much useless, they simply do not force enough air. With the Luft pump, I could drop airlines all the way to the bottom of the tank, right beside the gasping fishies. Without it, my fish would have died.

Hugo, I am very sorry for your loss and the loss of life. It is tragic.

I lost mine 2 years ago just now putting it back together am going mostly softy this time I think , I really know how you feel, lots of money and time. But LIFE will go on

It's painful just to read this.

I've lost 2 tanks in the past, the most recent being 2 years ago last month (dead chiller, temp reached 98). You're welcome to any frags from my tank...it'll help me "pay it forward" for those who helped me rebuild back then.

Arthur

Sorry to hear about your troubles sniper. I probably can't do much, but if you need something, LMK. Thanks.

I am so sorry to here this Hugo. I always felt that our tanks were tied together since we started around the same time. You will be back I'm sure of it. Let me know if I can help!

Wow that sucks bro, I feel your pain. Up here in the Bay area have had similar issues and the consensus that is unless you can prove without a doubt the power loss was not an "act of god" then you're kind of screwed. Although with your setup, the amount of stuff, I would definately try to make some claim not to mention technically it's your business, so might have more of a claim to compensation.

If you want to get some money, I would first attempt to go through the deal of getting cash for losses in a nice way first (SoCal Edison?) then if that doesn't work talk to a lawyer.

Hugo, it makes me sad to here of this. I hope that you can get some of your corals back from people that you have sold/traded to in the past. You have/had one of the most incredible tanks I have ever seen in person, pictures don't do it justice. To add insult to injury, your fish! A collection second to none in an SPS tank.

Again, sorry to here it buddy.

As stated already it would have to be 100% their fault the power was out for you to even attempt to sue.

Late payment/disconnect will be your fault
Act of god is not their fault no matter what time they said it would be back up

If they accidently cut your power or were doing maintance on a breaker and it blew then you'd have cause to sue ... thats about it.

I'm really sorry to hear your tank crashed! Made me go check my battery backup air pump ... dead ... whew ... good thing that was checked!

I'm so sorry Hugo. Your tank should have been protected by the government as an underwater sanctuary. Nobody could touch the beauty, I feel honored to have seen it.

I hope your CA buddies can give you back a lot of what you lost.

How is your store coming?

I'll say a prayer for you,
Charles

Hugo...I wish I could but I can't do much. Not only am I across the country but my tank doesn't have anything in it. If I had some sps, I would ship some your way to get you back up and running.

I remember looking at your tank on RC as TOTM for March I believe and thinking, my god that is magnificent, how proud that owner must be. Now to hear its mostly gone sadens me like I didn't think possible.

Keep your chin up. RC has some amazing people here and I am sure they will see that you get back up and running before you know it.

I don't know anything about law or your rights in a situation like this but eitherway, I wish the best for you in this trying time.

Mike

Hugo
I am so sorry about your loss. This is the time for anger and grieving. But, eventually, the exciment and hope will be back. I know, i have live through my tank crash. Hang in there, we are here when you needed.

Unfortunately, there is no legal basis upon which to proceed against Edison. All reefers would be well advised to have battery operated air pumps but that said, sorry.
