ORA Grade A Picasso Pair for sale at LA

BTW, I absolutely love my ORA Picassos and feel grateful to have a nice, beautiful, healthy pair. I think they probably have some of the classic small head issues and a bit of and underbite. I think that is probably what the discerning eye would notice. Never the less, I love them and I am glad to have them. Here they are a day or two in my tank, 6 months ago. They are side by side so you cannot see the male, but you get the idea, lol. They are so gorgeous now, a deeper orange and they are just starting to darken ever so slightly around the while areas.

slojmn........ My sentiments exactly, even though my clowns may not meet the "clownfish standards". Now, what do we do if/when they spawn? Throw the defective clowns away?

basser1 your clowns look amazing, they look healthy and have awsome color to them, hate it when people hate on such beautiful fish! ohwell just keep doing what your doing and im sure you'll get them to spawn soon, then you'll have a full line of names waiting for some picasso's!

I have had a lot of issues with ORA clowns, and not just the Picassos. I have lost one Grade B picasso, one naked clown, and one black clown all to the same symptoms. The false percs didn't look as pale as the true, but they all were skinny, wouldn't eat, and eventually died. I think all of the ORA Picassos (both Grade A and B) that I have seen come into the store looking very pale and skinny.

Well....yes. That's exactly what you should do. Every reputable breeder will cull those offspring that show deformities.

just wanted to add my two cents in to this thread.

I just got a pair of ORA Grade A picassos from saltwaterfish.com. When they arrived, they were super skinny w/shrunken-in bellies, and it made me wonder how the heck ORA or saltwaterfish.com ended up treating these guys .... luckily for me, both started eating w/in a few days and are now fattening up after a week.

I don't believe that Phender or anyone else is trying to "hate on such beautiful fish". They were posted in a thread where we were talking about the problems with these fish. They show obvious skull deformities, which is one of the problems commonly seen in these fish. Those fish illustrate the point that some of us were trying to get across. If ORA would take better care of their fish they would have a body type more like these.

Basser1 or someone did a great job of turning these fish into the healthy animals in the pic he posted. Unfortunately they still carry the results of the poor treatment they received at ORA.

Your fish don't have genetic deformities and therefore there is no reason the traits should be passed on to their young. If you raise the larvae in good conditions, you shouldn't be able to distinguish them from wild caught.

I didn't mean to "hatein' " on your clowns, but you posted a "brag" picture that, even though they are beautifully colored, supported the thought that the ORA clowns could stand a little quality control.

I'm glad you love them and I hope they breed for you.

Phil, In your opinion, which I totally respect, what do you think of the one you can see in my picture. Deformities? Weirdness?semi-okay? Fine? Just curious as to your thoughts.

I had a pair of ORA grade a picassos. They came in sick and had the white poop. It appears to have been marine velvet and secondary fungal infection from responses i've gotten to pics i posted. Both fish died and the disease spread to my other fish, killing my geometirc pygmy hawk and infecting my goby and mandarin. I'm pretty disheartened with the whole situation. I was expecting alot more, especially after waiting 1 yr+ for the pair. I just had to set up a qt tank today so i can leave my tank fishless for 5-6 weeks.

I think your assessment is a good one. They have a slight under bite. I can't tell from the pic if their noses are flat, but if they are, it's barely noticeable. Their heads look normal size to me and seem flow into their body naturally.

I almost didn't respond to this. The only thing that matters is if you like them. I don't know about you, but very few people come to my house to critique my clowns. :)
