Those are some seriously crazy patterns though and they'll be stunning once they get older and the black starts to fill in!
 
Nice pair but Ouch... $400 for 2 fish that are brother and sister & not even old enough to be called a pair?!? they use to be $100 each. Did ORA jack up the prices that much or are the retail stores getting greedy?
 
i'm sure the retail store is getting greedy...and i'm sure because the two fishes aren't nipping at each other, they're considered a pair and being sold as a pair to get that extra $$$...it's hard to see traits of a pair from a still shot picture...maybe if they posted up a video clip of the two fishes interacting together as proof of an actual bonded pair...
 
^^^ The ocellaris in the link above don't look any different or better than my $15 ones. I just don't see the price justification.
 
you can go buy 2 ocellaris from your LFS or cheaper yet from Petco, give them a few days or week and they're mated just like the one saltwaterfish is selling for $94 + shipping and their hidden fees that they don't tell you about until you're almost done checking out...you can do all of that for at most $50 (depending on your LFS)...and on the cheap end, $30 if you buy two fish from Petco...and from all my understanding, Petco gets their tank raised fishes from ORA...so that's even better...a mated ORA pair that's not spawning yet from Petco for only $30 + tax versus a mated ORA pair that is not spawning yet (as well) for $94 + shipping and a ton of hidden fees...hmm...i think i'm with AMPHIPRION on this one...sorry Titus77
 
here's another idea...buy from Petco as mentioned in my previous post and turn around and sell it for only $80 + shipping & NO hidden fees...the buyer will save $14 + hidden fees, and the fishes are still ORA...you in turn just made $50...
 
I think they should give these two to todd.:D

It would be nice of them, considering they gave him an unhealthy pair.

Not meaning to bag on ORA, they are doing great things, just thinking out loud.
It is strange how many stories I have heard of tank raised fish dying of diseases that you would normally associate with wild caught fish. I'm sure they don't send them out sick.

I doubt that inbreeding is a problem at this point in most of their varieties. Once you get a good pair they can produce 200-500 babies every 3 weeks for 10 years or more. Even if they were inbreeding or linebreeding their picassos on their original male, they wouldn't need to be more than one generation into it. That shouldn't be a problem.
 
I personally think it's the greed factor. Right now, picassos and snowflake clowns are the "in" clown to have and the dealers are capitalizing on it! Case in point, last August I purchased a pair of ORA grade A picassos from my LFS and paid $250 for the pair. Now my LFS is charging $350 per pair. I'm sure once they see what LA is getting for theirs, they may raise them again!
