I was reading some military stuff about WWI and WWII today as I often do. I like reading about military stuff, especially history. I know at least 3 folks on these board work for Lockheed/Martin right now!

anyway, I came across some really cool pictures of the Lockheed plant back in the 40s. I have never seen these pictures or knew that we had gone this far to protect ourselves back then. Especially inside our boarders! It's common place to see camouflage deep inside the battlefield lines, but not in the middle of our country! . During World War II the Army Corps of Engineers needed to hide the Lockheed Burbank Aircraft Plant in case of Japanese air attack. They covered it with camouflage netting to make it look like a rural subdivision from the air.

here's the plant as a sort of before picture:

this one shows it close to the ground so you can see through the netting, you can imagine how realistic it would look from high up!

and then other random shots!

pretty cool huh?

Looking at old declassified photos is always interesting. I am going nuts right now since I live on the edge of what was once a bombing range. Declassified info about it was available but not used. History is a great place to learn valuable lessons.

By the way have you ever been to www.globalsecurity.org it is a great site that you will probably spend hours reading through.

That is very cool! I have to show those to my father...he worked for Lockheed Martin for 40 years (back when it was Martin Marietta!) I joke that he's literally a rocket scientist, since he was an aerospace engineer.

Juice, I am moving to 32792...we are going to be neighbors! I'm moving into the Windward Square complex near 436 and Howell Branch Road. Hmmm...maybe you can show me around the stores someday?

Wow that's cool. I need one of these covers for my house the next time the google people plan to take the google earth 3D pics. I'd make my house look like lavish sprawling estate with fountians and such! Wouldn't that be funny when someone did an address search and wanted to check out where you lived! ;)
